Talent At The Highest Level

It always amazes me how the human mind works and how some people are wired one way and others the other way. You best see the differences when you go to exhibitions, events or presentations and you chat with the other participants. It's amazing how many interesting analysis you can hear of the same subject. I've seen people visit an exhibition in 5 minutes, that took me an hour and have heard people say the opposite things about the same item exhibited.

Why is that? No one knows. It is how human mind works. You may not like what I like and I may find horrible what you find fantastic. It is not a bad thing though as this is why the world is so colorful.

The best thing of all though is, that people change and they change their style, taste, interests and so on. I see this on myself and especially regarding art. There are things I did not like a few years ago, now I look at them with more acceptance and even admiration. Visiting so many exhibition has changed me in a good sense of the word.

Today I'm going to show you a lot of interesting artworks you may or may not like.

The artist's name is Anna Szotyory and the particularity of the exhibition was that the exhibited artworks were very different, ranging from graphics to watercolor and not only. It's not a unique thing among artists, but it's not something you see a lot either.

This type of graphics has always fascinated me because you only have the paper and ink, one color, to create something and there's no room for mistakes. You don't have paint to correct if one line is wrong. I'm wondering if they create a pencil sketch first, and then use ink, or go with ink from the beginning. Would be interesting to know.

Remember, this was a solo exhibition of the artist and this is what I meant. Earlier I showed you a graphics then comes a painting. A nice still life, from 1977. It's not often that you see old artworks, because these are mostly part of private collections and borrowing them for an exhibition is not an easy task.

This is where the talent of the artist shows. This is another graphics, but a different style, more complex in my eyes. It's a city with its detailed life.

I took some close up photos as it's impossible to see everything from the first photo. Look at the details, look at how detailed the graphics is. Unbelievable honestly.

After Bosch, 2024

Here we go, a watercolor, from the same artist, a very unusual one as you don't see many of this style. I love how the artist divided the paper in eight part and painted a different theme in each. Brilliant.

After Bosch

Another watercolor, same style. Now let's play a game. Tell me if there's a connection between the eight paintings and what's the theme? What would you call it?

20250214_114108a.JPG

Another brilliant artwork. I can only speculate obviously, as I didn't speak to the artist, but what I see here is "memories". Although it's a single piece of paper, it is made of two pieces. There's the central drawing, which is on top of another. I see a woman thinking about the different phases of her life. Her childhood with her sister, then her motherhood (holding her baby) and her ancestors, parents, grandparents. It's a brilliant concept, even though the topic is "heavy".

Watercolor, vase with colorful flowers. These paintings always make me think of the 20th century, or even the 19th.

Another watercolor, same theme, but in a different way. This painting makes me think of village life. The flowers are wild flowers, at least they look like wild flowers to me and the vase is basically a ceramic pot. Regardless, I love it. It reminds me from something in the past and I understand the painting has a different effect on everyone.

Évike

Here we go again, changing style and medium. This is linocut.

20250214_114720a.JPG

Looks charcoal to me, but I can't be sure. Some of the artworks had a title written on them, but most didn't. This one had no title either, so I can tell you only what I see and see sadness, but I love it regardless.

I'm still amazed how exceptionally talented the artist is. I loved every piece of the exhibition.

Now let's see which one your favorite is. I hope you have one :)

It's always so interesting for me to watch different artworks by the same artist along the time. I think some artists (the artist I prefer :P ) use to explore new techniques and themes and surfaces not just to improve their skills, but also to improve their imagination and the ways they can represent ideas and thoughts. A good artist perfectly knows, I think, there's always something new to learn. The piece in brown and other colors, full of details, is so beautiful, but I like so much also the others, especially the one in ink. ❤️

That is true, but I think it all comes down to if they like it enough to exhibit it and/or sell it. An artist's journey is full of trying and failing and we don't see so many of the works because they never show them to anyone.

The brown graphics or drawing (I don't know what to call it) seems to be the winner and well deserved as well.

this one is my favorite, if you zoom there are so many details, it must have taken a lot of time and effort to do this! its super hard

the paper in 8 parts... i cant really get the full theme, i see almost always a bird and often a fruit...i dont really know😕

i don't see sadness here, i see a woman sure of herself, afraid of nothing

Yeah, that's the winner today.

It's interesting to read what you see in the second one :)

I think that's where art lies, everyone sees different things and that's influenced by imagination, experiences, culture...

I love the first piece made with paper and ink, I used to do that kind of thing when I was studying, I used Indian ink and often used a sketch first, but with a very soft pencil, then the ink and then the pencil was erased.

My favourite piece is the city, how beautiful! The time it takes to do that is incredible! With every detail it has, I think I would even look at it with a magnifying glass. I'm fascinated!🤗

I thought there's a sketch first, to draw up the main idea, then comes the ink.

Yes, the city seems to be the favorite of many of us, for a very good reason. It's the most amazing piece of this batch in my opinion.

Thanks for the comment 🤗

Some, the more daring or experienced ones, can do it without a sketch, but there is no room for error.

If that city looks like something out of a fairy tale, what beautiful art. Thank you to you!🤗

I'm trying my best to bring something interesting each time.

There are some new exhibitions I need to visit soon 😎

Ahhh I love how you pointed out the shift in style throughout the exhibit! I get that too, sometimes I revisit old art I didn’t “get” before, and suddenly, it speaks to me.

Looking at an artwork after some time can give you different ideas or views. Not a bad idea though.

The works of this artist are really interesting, the diversity of their style is commendable. From those simple yet deep graphics with ink to older paintings.
Thank you for sharing this experience, I always enjoy seeing different arts and reading your personal interpretations.

I wouldn't call the graphics simple, on the contrary.
