Amazing Art You May Have Never Seen

Yesterday finally had some time to visit a temporary exhibition that has been extended till next year. Even without knowing what it was about, was grateful as otherwise most likely I would have missed it. Now that I know what it was, I know it would have been a real shame to miss it.

Amazing Art You May Have Never Seen.jpg

After a day of thinking, I can tell you, it's not the usual art you expect and it requires a high level of not only technical skills but 3D vision as well. The whole exhibition took me back to my high school years, when we had technical drawing classes and remembered how fun it was for some of us and how difficult, painful and damaging for others. Without pretending to be an expert in this field, I think you can learn it to some extent, but you have to have some spatial vision.

The exhibition was called "between the surface and infinity", a solo exhibition by Antal Vásárhelyi and you'll see why the title. Before I start, let me tell you that none of the artworks had a title, or maybe one or two, so it was once again, up to the visitor to determine what they were seeing.

There are a few galleries in the city, most of them are not built for the purpose but serving as a gallery for one reason or another, but this one is different. These two exhibition rooms are in a medieval fortress, built centuries ago and even though they have been upgraded, the original wooden floor and the beams are still there. This gives the whole gallery a different vibe. The light are also not what you get in the other exhibition rooms and I couldn't be more thankful as I didn't have to pull my hair yesterday and was able to take decent photos (I hope).

Have a look and try to figure out what you see.

Unlike landscapes, portraits and still life paintings, this type of art is not easy to understand. I think anyone would need some time to get used to what they are seeing and even then, some may not like it. I also needed some time to get accustomed, but here I already knew I am going to like the whole exhibition and was not wrong.

I was able to step closer to it in the gallery and have a closer look to see the details, but here I chose to crop the photo and leave only the graphics for you to see the details. There are two triangles at the top, that are filled with handwriting. I tried to read the text and for your information, it's not just random words thrown on paper, it's about geometry, dimensions, surfaces and so on.

Now please take another look and see what this graphics, drawing, whatever you want to call it, is made of. Lines in different direction, dots, text and so on. Now try to imagine how you would start such an artwork. Would you have the spatial vision to do it?

If you thought that's the only style the artist knows, you were wrong. We're changing style here and although this one seems less complex than the previous one, it isn't. The upper part of the painting may seem simple, but look at the bottom half. Again, that piece takes me back to my technical drawing classes and can imagine how fun it is to draw such an object, if you have some experience. Here I need to mention the lovely color selection as well. It adds a lot as it's pleasant to the eye.

When it comes to posting about art, I usually share my view and understanding, but here I'd rather not. I'm sure there's an explanation and a story behind every artwork (because these are artworks too), but I wouldn't dare starting guessing. I'd be interested in having a chat with the artist, to find out details about his thoughts and the process though.

Please have a look at this one and tell me if your eyes are running wild and you lose focus?

Those with very limited knowledge in this filed, or none at all may think you can do three or four such works and then you run out of combinations. Well, you are wrong, Look around.

Speaking of combinations. This is a painting mixed with drawing, with an architectural theme.

I see two type of drawings here. One is characterized by precision, the other is chaotic. It's like a sharp contrast of the first one and I think it is meant to break every rule the first one represent.

Lines, dots, shades and shadows, projections and so on, all this showed me how limited we are. Some people have been blessed with great talent and we are left with the chance to admire.

Now tell me what you think. Have you ever seen such art? Is it confusing for you? Are your eyes running wild when you look at them?

It's kinda strange indeed, not school stuff for me but a mix of technical draw and geometry... The first ones seems like churches, they give that feeling, could fit the theme, surface as us and infinity as God, so church would be a good symbol

I like this one, seems like a plaza from a city!
