Hello, readers! Today I'm here to bring you my review of the book Reminders of Him by author Colleen Hoover.

La historia gira en torno a Kenna, una joven que acaba de salir de prisión luego de 5 años, después de ser acusada por la muerte de su novio. Ella tiene una sola cosa en la mente: conocer a su hija, a la que le quitaron de sus brazos apenas parirla. La pequeña vive con sus abuelos, los padres de su padre, y Kenna está decidida a hacer todo lo que esté en sus manos para poder acercarse a la niña. Aunque no la tendrá fácil, va a tener que ganarse el perdón de esos padres y de todos los que querían a Scotty, pero lo más duro será perdonarse a ella misma.

The story revolves around Kenna, a young woman who has just been released from prison after serving five years for the murder of her boyfriend. She has only one thing on her mind: to meet her daughter, who was taken from her arms as soon as she gave birth. The little girl lives with her grandparents, her father's parents, and Kenna is determined to do everything in her power to get closer to the child. Although it won't be easy, she will have to earn the forgiveness of those parents and everyone who loved Scotty, but the hardest part will be forgiving herself.

Es un drama de esos que te hacen enojar mientras lo vas leyendo, no les puedo explicar las veces que me moleste y me dieron ganas de romper algo. No es una lectura apta para hipertensos jaja. En serio, la pasé muy mal y me daba mucha rabia todo lo que le pasó a Kenna. No merecía tanto maltrato, ella fue la que más perdió ese trágico día. Su razón de ser es su hija y me daba angustia que no la dejaran acercarse y conocerla. Encima la niña es un encanto, me hacía reír con sus ocurrencias y la historia me conmovió más de una vez.

It's one of those dramas that makes you angry as you read it. I can't tell you how many times I got upset and felt like breaking something. It's not suitable reading for people with high blood pressure, haha. Seriously, I had a really hard time and I was so angry about everything that happened to Kenna. She didn't deserve such mistreatment; she was the one who lost the most on that tragic day. Her reason for living is her daughter, and it distressed me that they wouldn't let her get close to her and get to know her. On top of that, the girl is a delight; she made me laugh with her witty remarks, and the story moved me more than once.

Me alegra que esté narrada desde dos puntos de vista, el de Kenna y el de Ledger, el mejor amigo de Scotty, él que cuida a esa niña y la quiere como si fuera propia. Él es el único lazo que tiene Kenna con ella, aunque también lo deteste en más de una ocasión, porque también fue responsable de que el encuentro no sucediera. Aunque tienen sus razones, pero yo estaba del lado de ella y todos los que estaban en contra me parecían malas personas, cero objetiva cuando me calzo al hombro una causa por más que sea ficticia. Todos los que estaban en contra de Kenna eran enemigos míos también y eso incluye a Ledger, aunque después se reivindicó.

I'm glad it's narrated from two points of view, Kenna's and Ledger's, Scotty's best friend, who takes care of that girl and loves her as if she were his own. He is Kenna's only link to her, even though she hates him on more than one occasion, because he was also responsible for the meeting not happening. Although they have their reasons, I was on her side and everyone who was against her seemed like bad people to me. I'm not objective when I take up a cause, even if it's fictional. Everyone who was against Kenna was my enemy too, and that includes Ledger, although he later redeemed himself.

Y así esperé todo el libro por este encuentro entre madre e hija, cuando sucedió quedé un poco decepcionada porque pensé que iba a ser todo mucho más emotivo y dramático, me esperaba algo diferente. Igual por una parte lo agradezco porque sino hubiera llorado un montón. Pero me dio pena que esto no ocurriera, un poco me emocioné en los momentos previos, cuando los involucrados empezaban a perdonarla, hasta ahí llegamos.

And so I waited throughout the entire book for this encounter between mother and daughter, and when it happened, I was a little disappointed because I thought it was going to be much more emotional and dramatic; I was expecting something different. On the one hand, I'm grateful because otherwise I would have cried a lot. But I was sad that it didn't happen. I got a little emotional in the moments leading up to it, when those involved began to forgive her, but that's as far as it went.

El final estuvo bien, pero tampoco fue nada del otro mundo. No lo sé, entiendo lo que sucedió y me parece una decisión más que acertada, pero no dejo de pensar que no me convenció del todo y que me hubiera gustado algo diferente. Pero está okey, lo acepto.

The ending was fine, but it wasn't anything special either. I don't know, I understand what happened and I think it was the right decision, but I can't help feeling that I wasn't entirely convinced and that I would have liked something different. But it's okay, I accept it.

Fue una lectura entretenida, que me mantuvo expectante de lo que iba sucediendo, pero que en algún punto perdió fuerza. También fue una montaña rusa de emociones, eso sí, y la mayoría no fueron buenas, pero me gusta eso, que un libro me haga sentir emociones, aunque sean negativas en esta ocasión por el enojo que me produjo en partes. Igual es una lectura que recomiendo. Como dato de color, el mes que viene se estrena la adaptación y esa fue una de las razones de porque decidí leerlo.

It was an entertaining read that kept me guessing about what was going to happen next, but at some point it lost momentum. It was also an emotional roller coaster, mind you, and most of those emotions weren't good ones, but I like that—I like it when a book makes me feel emotions, even if they're negative ones in this case because of how angry it made me feel at times. Still, it's a book I recommend. As a side note, the adaptation is coming out next month, and that was one of the reasons I decided to read it.
