📚 Book Review: Paraíso Perverso [ES/EN]

¡Hola amigos lectores! Hoy me paso por acá para traerles mi reseña acerca de un libro llamado Paraíso perverso de la autora Mar Petryk. Una especie de Dark Romance.

Hello, readers! Today I'm here to bring you my review of a book called Paraíso perverso (Perverse Paradise) by author Mar Petryk. It's a kind of dark romance.

En esta historia conocemos al pueblo de Darkwell, un lugar abandonado por Dios, donde cada 3 inviernos desaparecen personas y no se las vuelve a ver. A la entidad desconocida que parece arrancar a las personas de sus casas sin previo aviso le pusieron el nombre de La Bestia. Pero ahora se adelantó, y ni siquiera es invierno, con las nuevas víctimas el pueblo entra en caos y un nuevo cura aparece, el Padre LeBlanc, que tiene un pasado con Darkwell y junto a Jennel Ruppel, una de las hijas del alcalde, se unirán a los rebeldes para descubrir de una vez por todas quién está detrás de todo esto.

In this story, we meet the town of Darkwell, a place abandoned by God, where every three winters people disappear and are never seen again. The unknown entity that seems to snatch people from their homes without warning has been named The Beast. But now it has come early, and it's not even winter. With new victims, the town is thrown into chaos, and a new priest appears, Father LeBlanc, who has a past with Darkwell. Together with Jennel Ruppel, one of the mayor's daughters, they will join the rebels to discover once and for all who is behind all this.

Es un libro bastante misterioso e intrigante. No sabes muy bien lo que está pasando y eso te hace querer avanzar, sin embargo, en un punto también se me hizo algo lento porque tarde bastante en terminarlo, aunque no era porque no me gustara, se dio así.

It's a rather mysterious and intriguing book. You don't really know what's going on, which makes you want to keep reading, but at one point I also found it a bit slow because it took me quite a while to finish it, although that wasn't because I didn't like it, it just happened that way.

La historia me pareció muy interesante, tiene una ambientación antigua y gótica. Por momentos se vuelve una trama muy oscura con tintes fantásticos y sobrenaturales. Hay fuerzas mucho más grandes que los simples mortales. Hay tratos que se hicieron en el pasado con entidades peligrosas y eso desencadenó en lo que se convirtió el pueblo. Un lugar donde los monstruos se sienten cómodos, pero se camuflan entre los mortales y lucen como el más hermoso de los ángeles. Esa es la premisa que aborda el libro.

I found the story very interesting, with its ancient, gothic setting. At times, it becomes a very dark plot with fantastical and supernatural overtones. There are forces much greater than mere mortals. Deals were made in the past with dangerous entities, and that triggered what the town became. A place where monsters feel comfortable, but they camouflage themselves among mortals and look like the most beautiful of angels. That is the premise addressed in the book.

También habla mucho acerca del poder de la fe y que al perderla, nos podemos perder a nosotros mismos. Siempre es necesario creer en algo, y si no crees en nada, al menos cree en ti mismo. Ese será el camino para vencer. El tema religioso es una parte importante en la trama porque nos muestran a este joven cura que tiene que poner a prueba su fe y la tendrá muy difícil. Lo que hace Darkwell es quitarte toda esperanza y uno se tiene que rendir ante La Bestia.

It also speaks volumes about the power of faith and how, when we lose it, we can lose ourselves. It is always necessary to believe in something, and if you don't believe in anything, at least believe in yourself. That will be the path to victory. The religious theme is an important part of the plot because we are shown this young priest who has to put his faith to the test and will have a very difficult time. What Darkwell does is take away all hope, and one has to surrender to The Beast.

Hay otros personajes que luchan contra sus propios fantasmas que buscan que se les caiga la máscara y muestren su verdadera naturaleza. Eso será lo único que pueda parar estos crímenes y darle un descanso al pueblo maldito.

There are other characters who fight against their own demons, who want to tear off their masks and reveal their true nature. That will be the only thing that can stop these crimes and give the cursed town some respite.

Es un libro que por momentos se pone muy interesante y te absorbe, pero por otros se vuelve lento y también puede resultar confuso en ciertas partes. Hay varias voces narradoras que complementan muy bien a la trama, aunque en ocasiones se puede perder un poco el eje. Creo que no llegué a conectar del todo con la historia.

It's a book that at times gets very interesting and absorbs you, but at other times it slows down and can also be confusing in certain parts. There are several narrative voices that complement the plot very well, although at times you can lose the thread a little. I don't think I quite connected with the story.

Como les comentaba al principio, no sabes lo qué está pasando muy bien hasta el final, pero este también puede ser algo confuso. No me gustó tanto el cierre, no se entendió del todo, me hubiera gustado más explicaciones, que haya una batalla final, algo simbólico que de cuenta de que el mal se fue al fin. Fue algo confuso, no malo, sino que no es lo que me hubiese gustado para una historia como esta. Pero igual es un libro que recomiendo mucho, es super interesante y si los logra enganchar es para leerlo hasta el final y dejarse sorprender.

As I mentioned at the beginning, you don't really know what's going on until the end, but this can also be somewhat confusing. I didn't like the ending very much; it wasn't entirely clear. I would have liked more explanations, a final battle, something symbolic to show that evil had finally been defeated. It was a bit confusing, not bad, but not what I would have liked for a story like this. Still, it's a book I highly recommend. It's super interesting, and if it hooks you, you'll want to read it to the end and let yourself be surprised.
