📚 Book Review: Mia [ES/EN]

¡Hola amigos lectores! Hoy me paso por acá para traerles mi reseña acerca del libro llamado Mia de la autora Luciana B. Jares.

Hello, readers! Today I'm here to bring you my review of the book Mia by author Luciana B. Jares.

La historia sigue a dos mejores amigos de la infancia, Víctor y Amelia. Ella sufre una enfermedad de la que no se encuentra cura y Víctor se propone hacer todo lo posible para encontrar una, pero la salud de Amelia, o Mia como le decían, empeora hasta que fallece en los brazos de su amigo. Este nunca pudo olvidar su promesa de curarla, así que entre tanta investigación se termina convirtiendo en científico y en su adultez crea una copia exacta de la Mia de su infancia para continuar con los estudios acerca de su rara enfermedad. Sí, está Mia también heredó la enfermedad de la original, pero lo más grave es que esta Mia nunca debió existir y con ella vino una criatura peligrosa que tampoco pertenece a este mundo.

The story follows two childhood best friends, Victor and Amelia. She suffers from an incurable disease, and Victor sets out to do everything he can to find a cure, but Amelia's health, or Mia as she was called, worsens until she dies in her friend's arms. He could never forget his promise to cure her, so after much research, he becomes a scientist and, as an adult, creates an exact copy of the Mia from his childhood to continue his studies on her rare disease. Yes, this Mia also inherited the disease from the original, but what's worse is that this Mia should never have existed, and with her came a dangerous creature that also does not belong in this world.

La trama y la portada del libro me dieron todas las vibras a una versión moderna y libre del clásico libro de Mary Shelley, Frankenstein. Aunque tiene sus propias particularidades y hay entidades oscuras. Fue una historia interesante que logró engancharme de entrada y creo que retrata esa obsesión casi enfermiza por creerse superior al revivir a los muertos.

The plot and cover of the book gave me all the vibes of a modern, free adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic novel, Frankenstein. Although it has its own unique features and there are dark entities. It was an interesting story that hooked me right from the start, and I think it portrays that almost unhealthy obsession with believing oneself to be superior by bringing the dead back to life.

También es bastante curiosa la manera de estar narrado, creo que eso fue lo más atrapante. Conocemos la historia por medio del diario de Víctor, mezclado con cartas entre sus seres queridos y luego, cuando Mia crece, también tendrá su propio diario en el que conoceremos cómo piensa y lo que siente, ella es muy consciente que fue creada con el objetivo de ser la Mia que Víctor quería y por eso su infancia está marcada por el sentimiento de intentar parecerse a ella, pero no, no es esa Mia.

The way it is narrated is also quite interesting; I think that was the most captivating part. We learn the story through Victor's diary, mixed with letters between his loved ones, and then, when Mia grows up, she also has her own diary in which we learn how she thinks and feels. She is very aware that she was created with the aim of being the Mia that Victor wanted, and that is why her childhood is marked by the feeling of trying to be like her, but no, she is not that Mia.

Está muy bien planteado, la verdad es que me gustó mucho. Aunque sí creo que quedaron algunas situaciones sin mayores repercusiones, pero está bien. Es el primer libro de la autora y creo que está teniendo un buen recibimiento. La historia engancha por sí misma, además, la edición es muy hermosa con ilustraciones propias que proporciono la autora también.

It's very well written, I really liked it. Although I do think that some situations were left without much repercussion, but that's okay. It's the author's first book and I think it's being well received. The story is captivating in itself, and the edition is very beautiful with illustrations provided by the author herself.

La historia me transmitió las vibras góticas de Frankenstein y también nos habla de que todo acto tiene consecuencias, tanto buenas como malas, y que no debemos jugar a ser Dios. Lo que muere debe quedarse así y hay que aprender a aceptarlo porque jugar con la vida, y con la muerte, puede traer consecuencias muy graves para todos. Es un libro que me dejó un poco reflexiva. Por momentos también se sintió una lectura extraña por lo que iba sucediendo, y todo el tema de las entidades paranormales, los institutos ilegales donde se estudia a niños "especiales" y el tema de la secta religiosa me quedo un poco colgado. Pero bueno, considero que es una buena historia en general y merece la pena que la lean.

The story conveyed the gothic vibes of Frankenstein and also tells us that every action has consequences, both good and bad, and that we should not play God. What dies must remain dead, and we must learn to accept this because playing with life, and with death, can have very serious consequences for everyone. It's a book that left me feeling a little pensive. At times, it also felt like a strange read because of what was happening, and the whole issue of paranormal entities, illegal institutes where “special” children are studied, and the religious sect left me a little confused. But anyway, I think it's a good story overall and worth reading.
