The Day Has Finally Come

avatar
(Edited)

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later and since I live in the Siberia of America (Minnesota) it happened later. I finally got a glimpse of Tesla's Cybertruck up close and personal!

CT1.jpg

Photos couldn't have prepared me for how massive this truck is in person.

CT2.jpg

It's polarizing design creates nothing but love and hate. During the past five years I've found myself in both camps. I'll never forget when Cybertruck was first unveiled in November of 2019. I was in an airport waiting to catch a flight to New York and happened to see the launch event on one of the TVs in the terminal and thought it was a joke.

CT3.jpg

Since then the design has grown on me and seeing the vehicle in person from every angle just made me like it all the more.

CT4.jpg

I predict these will become the best selling truck in America. There's so much more potential that Tesla will unlock in the coming months with software updates. Will I have one of these in my driveway? Probably not but it sure would be hella fun to to know someone who does.

A.I. (Apple Intelligence)

After months of rumors, Apple finally announced during WWDC '24 how it will how it will make up for subjecting its users to their horribly inept digital assistant, Siri, for way too many years.

AI1.jpg

During the conference it was announced that Apple plans to install artificial intelligence across its entire operating system in various ways. For more complex tasks it will enlist the help of OpenAI's ChatGPT.

If the last part of the announcement causes you to raise an eyebrow, it should. Now is when you should really start doing your homework about how your data is used and make sure you fully understand exactly what you're giving away before jumping into this new age of A.I.

During the past few days rumors are swirling the Elon Musk is considering launching this very own smartphone, connected to Starlink and with a primary focus on user privacy through either xAI, X (formerly Twitter), Starlink, or Tesla.

It'll be interesting to see how this all shakes out but given a choice I'd probably stake my future on the phone Musk brings to market over iPhone or Android. The future is about to get a whole lot more crazy, do your homework and chose wisely.

A Little Taste of Paris in St. Paul

This weekend I was reminded of how incredibly good pastry can be. My sister-in-law's in town from Sedona and we decided to treat her to some of the best croissants in the world.

MH1.jpg

My taste buds usually lean more towards savory than sweet but they were corrupted by French pastries two years ago during a visit to Montreal.

MH2.jpg

I almost can't believe I'm saying this but the Marc Heu Patisserie, that dangerously resides just a few blocks from where I live, is better than anything I've had in Montreal.

If you're in town be sure to visit. If you do, come early because there's always a line and they sell out fast.

Those pastries look divine !

With all the AI info that is coming out all over, I've already wondered if I'd ever be able to keep up with it and what I should know and what I should be cautious about. It may come down to not believing anything unless you can see it in the real world, with your own eyes. It seems like it would be more polarizing than good. Time will tell like it always does.

Words can't describe how good they were. I think there was a stick of butter in each one!

The mass adoption and proliferation of A.I. will be the most paradigm-shifting thing humanity has ever seen. There's a huge upside potential and a whole lot of danger. I just hope people stop, take a deep breath, and make wise choices. If the past few years have taught us anything they've taught us to be cautious of the intentions of big corporations.

I laughed at "I think there was a stick of butter in each one!" Now I KNOW they were delish!

We'd probably be surprised, no matter how much we know, of how manipulated and taken advantage of that we already are and it seems this will make that an easier task for the sly ones.

Now I want a pastry !

I don't think I said a word until mine was gone. I like the "escargot", it's spiraled with dark chocolate and pistachios. The almond/rhubarb/strawberry croissant was good too though.

I agree about the manipulation. Social media algorithms are one of the main reasons the world is so divided right now.

Lol, I want a pastry too. They open in four minutes.....

The verdict is still out on Apple AI, but it is worth noting that they said there are different levels and that you can disable any that you feel uncomfortable with. For more, I guess we will have to wait till the security reviewers dig in.

As for the cybertruck, you know I saw one in Japan just a few weeks ago. I was shocked. It drove by so I couldn't study it in detail, but I was amazed. I wonder if I will see more... I can't say I like the design, but one thing I can say is it is a breath of fresh air. I don't know about you, but I feel like car design has been at a standstill since the 90s. Everything looks the same now. I like seeing new designs, even if weird ones.

Yes, I was happy to hear that any task handed to OpenAI would have to be approved by the user each time. At least we'll be given a choice in that regard. Some of the new features baked into the OS are pretty darn amazing though.

They're already in Japan? The design is a lot more shocking than I imagined it would be in person, and in a good way. What impresses me even more is the tech inside. I agree with you automotive design is pretty stale except for KIA/Hyundai. All of the other mainstream automakers just seem to copy each other.

I don't know if they are released here yet. It could be someone imported it themselves. I was too busy looking at the cybertruck itself so I didn't see what side the steering wheel was on, which is always a tell-tale sign of a car was bought locally or imported.

Yeah, overall I'm excited by the next MacOS version. It seems like the best release in years, if everything works out as they showed it. I will definitely be a bit cautious on the AI part, but all the rest looks really good.

I had totally forgotten Japanese domestic cars were righthand drive! I wonder when this new MacOS/iOS will be rolled out? I can't wait to try it.

Hmm... I'm not sure. I think it's usually around the beginning of autumn, before the new phones hit. You can actually use the betas of each new OS right now if you are willing to risk it.

I'd be a little leery about trying it in Beta. I'll have to try to be patient.

If the last part of the announcement causes you to raise an eyebrow, it should.

AI and its integration into big-tech has become the new tool to trespass the private sphere. And it's a careful and neo attempt to create a smokescreen in public optic to say hey....we respect your privacy and we take the backchannel to trespass your privacy assuming you wont notice it.

Anyway, I love that polarizing design to Tasla Cybertruck. For the first time, I could realize its size through this blog.

Thank you Sir.

Have a great day.

Yes, I agree. We, as individuals, will never get a second chance to determine what our first steps into A.I. are going to be. I hope people realize the impact and don't take the decision lightly.

It was way larger and taller than I expected. The dealership had the air suspension at its full height of 12" though so this made it seem larger than it would seem if the suspension was lowered.

Enjoy the day, Milaan!

Holy moly, it's going to take some restraint not to be standing in that line at least once a week. Lol. She was very happy with the pastry. They have a French bakery in Sedona but I'm not sure how it compares to this. Thanks, Nancy! I hope you enjoy your week!

I must admit that the design of the Tesla tastes quite futuristic to me from my little third world country, plus visually it doesn't match my aesthetic tastes considering that I don't see it as an aesthetically beautiful car (of course, from my ignorance), although I don't doubt at all that it is made with the best of the latest mechanical, electronic and electronic technology.
I don't doubt at all that it is made with the best of the latest mechanical and electronic technology.

As for AI in phones, I think most of us are not clear about the security of our data and we throw private information to social networks without calculating the damage we do to ourselves, so having AI built into a cell we could program it to respond to every friend request, mail, message or call .... I imagine that behind APPEL will come all to imitate.

And as for the sweets, which look super elegant and seductive, I can only tell you that my taste buds match yours just by the visual aspect, I can't imagine living near a place like that...it would be terrible for me economy...😄

I felt the exact same way when I first saw the Cybertruck. It took me years to warm up to the design of it. It still looks strange to me from certain angles.

There needs to be a massive public education campaign on personal privacy when it comes to their data and devices. Most people don't realize that when any of these companies offer any of these features for free they're harvesting and selling our data for their own benefit.

Lol, yes, I'm going to try my best to forget that bakery is just down the road. I'll have to get another income stream to pay for my French pastry habit!

The truck is massive indeed! It has some alien looks which makes it more apt for Space than Earth,.. 😁
On a more serious note, this should be a game changer and would come very very expensive.

They plan on using it for the first human colony on Mars, no joke. It's around $100k USD now but the price will settle to around $75k, which is what you'd pay for any of its competitors.

In early 80's their was a serial called star trek television series, played every sunday. As the schooks were off me, my siblings and my neighbours would enjoy watching this series. This huge truck reminds me of star trek. As its a kind of science fiction series, almost all vehicles in it are simiar to rhis. Coming to food, the pastries look so yummy, sure it would taste too good. Enjoy!

Thank you! Yes, it's super futuristic. Our mainstream vehicle design has been stagnant for quite some time. They just reinvent the classics or copy each other. Maybe this truck will make other manufacturers push the boundaries of design a little more.

The car's design reminds me of armoured tanks used in fighting wars. I know the truck would have very sound safety features. Is it the same one that has self-driving features?

That pastry could tempt a nun... 😁

It very much does look like a military vehicle. The self driving feature will be available for this truck soon but wasn't available during the rollout of it. Lord, I have dreams of that pastry.

Please if I may ask? Is there any specific purpose for those cybertrucks? They look too 'fortified' to be just an ordinary truck one can drive around in the town.
I love pastries too and these ones are too attractive to resist.

They made the Cybertruck for heavy duty work and off roading but most people are just using them for commuter vehicles and as status symbols. I think a lot of people who own other makes of heavy duty trucks here in America just use them for transportation and the occasional errand.

It is polarising to say the least. I mean you cant fault it for being bold, striking and futuristic but there is definitely the love it hate it thing going on. I think I fall in the verging of hating it. Just the boxiness of it all. That being said I wouldn't mind giving it a whirl!

0

It's definitely different, it takes "brutalist design" to a new level. I'd like to drive one but doubt I'll ever have a garage big enough for something that massive or the need to own one.

I'm on the "cool" side of the camp when it comes to the Cybertruck. It looks like a tank. Will definitely test-drive it when I get the chance. In re. to privacy and AI: things are heating up. I'm a huge Linux and open-source fan. I de-googled one of my phones and installed LineageOS.

The pastries look delicious and I hope you all savored them. Those of us who live in Europe are spoiled with these sweet goodies ;)

It's pretty badass. I hated it at first but it sure has grown on me, I think it's more about the tech/features under the skin than the exterior design for me. It's probably only reached 50% of it's potential so far but will be steadily improved with OTA software updates.

You're so lucky! As I'm sure you know, many of these things originated in Vienna before they were brought to Paris. There would be a lot of temptation there!

It was purposeful selective memory. ; ) Actually, these aren't all too common outside of NYC, LA, or a handful of other big cities here in the US. America is woefully lacking in good pastry. Greasy donuts are more common.

That was that same camp I was in when it first came out. I think the more I learned about the tech inside of it the more it sparked the joy of my inner geek.

I hope you're having a great week!

The pastries look amazing, the truck not so much :) I actually saw a small Tesla the other day (maybe a model Y) and it was towing a small utility trailer. I couldn't help but think how much that was killing their battery. I can't imagine they would have driven very far like that. At least not without charging. I heard that the AI in the iPhone is mostly going to reside "on phone" for most mundane tasks and only connect to the Open AI network for more complex stuff. Apparently that is their answer to keeping your data private. Who knows!

0
0
0.000

They were too delicious!

A small trailer would probably diminish a Model Y's range by 15-25% depending on speed, gradient, etc. The truth is EVs just aren't ideal for towing long distances (except for the semis). I think battery tech has a way to go. After owning an EV for two years I've come to learn that you can't think of them exactly as you do an ICE vehicle, it takes a certain amount of rewiring of your brain (at least it did with me).

Most people believe they need an EV with 400-500 miles of range but that's just not the case. My Long Range Model 3 has about 350 miles of range and that's probably way more than most people need, including me. 250-300 is probably more ideal because you leave the house with a full charge every time and there are more than enough chargers along most routes for long road trips.

The way Tesla has engineered supercharging now is pretty ingenious, the system calculates the least amount of time you'll need to spend at a supercharger for road trips and you end up stopping every couple of hours to charge for a lesser amount of time (in most cases less than 10-12 minutes)...kind of like a rock skipping across a pond. It makes total sense because most of us want to get out and stretch every few hours anyway. But, again, it's a matter or reframing how you think about road trips. In my Prius I could drive all the way from St. Paul to Columbus and just fill up once around the halfway point.

Yes, that's what I heard about Apple Intelligence too! I'm glad they're being more transparent and giving people the choice before handing the compute off to OpenAI. I'm interested in that new "Tesla" phone they're talking about and how they'll approach privacy.

That makes a lot of sense about the shorter legs and shorter charge time. I think I would probably be okay with that as we stop more frequently now that we are older anyway. If Tesla makes a phone that thing better last weeks on a charge... Any word on your Rabbit yet?

I’ve yet to do a long road trip but don’t expect it to be much of an issue. I cancelled my reservation after reading all of the negative reviews of the Rabbit. I’m so happy I did after this Apple announcement yesterday. I don’t expect Humane.AI or Rabbit to be around much longer.

Ah okay, that's' kind of a bummer. It looked like it had a lot of potential. I guess now that the big tech companies are starting to get their hands in AI we are going to see some pretty amazing things in the coming years if not months.

I was very disappointed. I had high hopes for these standalone devices but I feel all of their features will just be integrated into our phones. Hopefully it will accomplish what we wished the standalone devices would do, help us spend less time with our phones and more time experiencing the world.

Interesting... The weight is what is getting me. 7500 pounds is no joke. My 26 foot with a super slide is only about 6900 pounds, but that's fully unloaded. I towed that beast with a 1/4 ton pickup and the sway is scary. The frame in 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickups is just more suited for loads like that. The self propel piece might make that a moot point, but there is a point where overconfidence can become dangerous.

7500lbs isn't a joke. The motor and battery would definitely make the vehicle you're towing work way less but maneuverability is going to be a huge issue. I can see a ton of people flocking to buy these that have never towed anything before.

This vehicle is surprising in many aspects, I have no doubt that your opinion that it will be one of the best-selling trucks will be like this.
Regarding AI, we must begin to familiarize ourselves and understand well what it is about, and how much it can affect us regarding the collection of our data.

Those cakes have stimulated my sweet tooth.

Technology is pushing the pace these days. I've always been a lover of technological advances, but now that I've gotten older, the fears take me by surprise. It seems it's possible that we may lose control. It's hard to keep up with every announcement. It seems our obsolescence is just around the corner. Woe to my children and grandchildren who will have to deal with this problem. In the meantime, let's try to tame this beast under our seats and in our hands.

Greetings.

The advancements are growing exponentially now and our world will be changing incredibly fast between now and 2030.

Yes, you are right. I think we are already living it and 2030 is already here.

Yesterday I was riding into town with my brother and one of these trucks passed us. It was so futuristic looking that it didn't seem real lol. I would like to get an up close look at it for sure. If there was a

pastry shop like that one only a couple of blocks away from my house I would most likely be way overweight lol. Those pastries look delicious!!

It looks like nothing else on the road. Supposedly the Tesla Robotaxi that they're unveiling on 8/8 will have a similar design to the truck. I'm trying hard to forget that the bakery is within walking distance. Lol.

I have been seeing them more and more here in Phoenix. They are way better in person. I like them!

I agree! This thing has so much potential and many of those who hate the design will grow to like it in time. It's just so shocking at first.

Are the pastries as good as those in Paris? That pistachio shnecken looks fabulous. Do they call it that?

I'm not sure about Paris, I was only there once and never left the airport (on a layover to Portugal). They're as good, or maybe a tad better, than what I've had in Montreal though. They called the pistachio one "escargot" because it looks like a snail's shell. It was so good!

What I wouldn't give for a good schneken! I don't think I'm spelling that right.
I once worked in a great patisserie in NYC. We made everything from scratch. Mostly men from Guyana made the croissants and danish, every part of the process except proofing and baking them. That stuff was incredible. I don't bother anywhere else, having tasted stuff that good, I am not interested in the CRAP that most places sell for croissant.

Ahh, it was the German translation! It tasted divine. The one I had in Montreal had raspberries baked into it along with the dark chocolate and pistachio. I didn't really miss the raspberries. Once you've had good pastry nothing else compares. The "pastry" being sold in most places are just bad imitations.

Bad, yes. Not worth the money or chewing time. I think raspberries and chocolate are wrong in a shnecken. Way to go making something divine mundane.

I have been looking for a truck, I told my husband I found one, and he said to buy it, and then I told him the price, can you believe he laughed at me?

Lol, it's not cheap! It will be coming down in price though to around $75k and tax incentives will bring it into the mid-60k range. That's still a ton of money but a pretty decent value when you figure how expensive the competition is.

I have never bought a new vehicle, so no matter how low this one gets, I doubt I would ever be able to afford it. I do like its look.

It should have been interesting to see the Cybertruck in a person! Its powerful architecture and amazing potential for future uses are amazing. I really want to visit Marc Heu Patisserie the next time I'm in St. Paul because those pastries look so delicious. I appreciate you sharing.

The best selling truck will definitely be so costly I am so sure of that seeing the appearance

I like its design and the way it is upgraded it will surely sell more. They are made with a lot of time and look very beautiful
