Still Light The Way (An Original Poem)

We define our cosmic roots
in the humble marrow
of a stranger’s handshake,

Family is who shows up
when this world grows cold,
when the very last glowing ember
forgets our name.

Make it a habit to acknowledge
each other’s humanity
before every mirror learns to lie.

Make your bones
from the dust of each failure,
from the quiet hope
that lives beyond the screams.

No one tells you anything
you didn’t already know or intuit,
the heart is but a ventriloquist’s dummy
but the voice is yours, always yours.

I fall deep
into the hush
where galaxies foresee
their own collapse
and yet choose to stay open
assuring their stars
still light the way.

A beautiful poem , the way it shows humanity, hope, and resilience is truly touching. The message of finding light even in darkness felt truly profound.

If we are living in this world without feeling each other, then there is no point in living our lives. Only those people who help each other and support each other always find peace. So we should live our lives somehow because one day it has to end.

I read this as a collection of shorter poems. They all touch a broad theme, but stand very well on their own.

I love this:

Make your bones
from the dust of each failure

Thank you! You're very perceptive. Lately I've been jotting down lines for poems as they strike me and weaving them into poems once I have enough material to do so. It makes it a bit more challenging in the end and it feels like a puzzle to make it all work.

It feels as if each verse were a breadcrumb to keep you from getting lost along the way, a piece of advice if we want to be here and now. Life can be lived in a thousand ways, but there is one that enlightens us. Thank goodness for poetry. Hugs

Life can be lived in a thousand ways, but there is one that enlightens us.

I love that sentence. Not enjoying simple pleasures and those people around us in real time will be one of the greatest regrets of our generation, I think. Hugs to you my friend!
