Speaking at Podfest!
I almost missed the fact I had been invited to speak at Podfest. Doh! So, I was especially glad to have found the invite (sent last week) as I was scrolling through email to see if I had missed anything pressing. Which I obviously had!
How can you miss such an important email? Is a question you would be right to ask. All I can say is that the last few months have been a wonderful whirlwind of podcast projects that have kept me more than a little bit busy. Want to know the funny part about that? Even though I have been working long hours, weekends, all-nighters it doesn't feel like work. Believe me. It is totally work. BUT because I am working in my sweet spot doing what I absolutely love to do, the long hours fade away.
Which is why this one important email was missed...until today!
So in the midst of winter of January 2024, I'll be in the Sunshine State with many of my fellow podcast enthusiasts. I hope to see you there. Maybe we can arrange to have a Hive meetup...or is that called a Hive Up?
That sounds like a great fun. I'm glad you got invited.
Same! I'm not a fan of flying, so I looked into taking Amtrak. I would leave on Sunday and arrive on Wednesday. Which would be okay, but the route is odd. From Texas to Illinois to Washington DC to Orlando in the middle of winter. Um....no thank you.
Right. Chicago is an Amtrak hub.
It might take less time on Greyhound. Or, in the same amount of time, you can bus to Destin, spend the night, and then ride again the next day.
Bus travel for that length of time is not ideal. The beauty of train travel is the space, dining car, bar car, observatory car, and the ability to walk around or sit and work away. Air travel is no fun these days, but it is faster. So there's that.
You can work on a train. I think they have receptacles at each seat these days. It may just pay for itself in productivity.
I found an alternative route which avoids Chicago. I can go to New Orleans. Then from New Orleans to Alexandria, VA then to Orlando. Not less expensive though. Travel by train is longer and more expensive. Which is probably why more folks don't rely on this for business travel. I'll admit, even with these negatives I am still not counting train travel out. I have a few months to plan.
