monomad challenge tours the garden and checks out the well
we've been busy since we arrived back in India a couple of weeks ago but last evening and this morning i got time to take some special shots with the soft light of the low sun highlighting a few flowers. the first ones here are white and yellow frangipani taken with the last rays kissing it in the evening
likewise this hibiscus caught the evening sun as i was watering it. it's actually pink but it looks at least as good in black and white. there were several flowers on the bush but only one was nicely lit so i took several shots from different angles
now a few morning shots. this bud was about to open
this milkweed was fully in the shade but i liked the newly forming leaves
morning rays were barely shining through another milkweed leaf that was just slightly translucent. though the leaf was backlit i took the shot downwards to get a darker background and edited in some heavy shadowing as well.
this orange hibiscus had blossomed yesterday but wasn't yet fully wilted when it caught the soft morning rays. i took several similar shots
our source of drinking water is our front well. it's about 6 meters deep and presently there's about 1 meter or more of water. we cover the well with a net that is supported by steel bars. the image is the reflection of the sky through the with the bars under and some fallen leaves on top. when i opened the net to take the shot some sand fell down making ripples in the water
the water soon became still and now the reflection is more mirror-like. the trees are visible around the perimeter. the net is fixed everywhere except for a small section we open by folding back the cover in order to draw well by hand. the folded net casts a shadow on the reflection. of course there is also a pump with the pipe to the left of the image. if you look closely you can see there is no cement on the lowest layers of stone. this is done to allow the water to flow freely through the stone ring. during monsoon the water level is much higher than at present, at least 3 meters higher.
thanks so much for the curation
