monomad challenge: inside Lindesnes lighthouse
a couple of days ago we visited Lindesnes lighthouse at the southernmost tip of mainland Norway. it's a great area to visit with dramatic seacoast scenery it was a nice sunny day but this post features some details inside the lighthouse.
it's a close to perfect setup for black and white shots
the coast of Norway is long and rocky so there are many lighthouses, each with a unique signal. historically they were all manually operated by crews of several people. manning a lighthouse is a special and demanding occupation. many of them are located on otherwise uninhabited islands so the lightkeepers can be isolated during the long harsh winter and the frequent storms. in modern times with the installation of electricity the lighthouses gradually became automated. Lindesnes is the last remaining semiautomated light in all of Norway with a lightkeeper in residence.
for obvious reasons the actual light with the lenses is fenced off with no access but in one spot the opening in the fence is just enough to get a couple of clear shots
oh in case you were wondering what the lighthouse looks like from the ground, here's a shot. i will make another post from the area around with more views soon
