monomad challenge: at the container terminal

while there are sections of the port facilities in Larvik harbor that are open to the public, much of it is fenced off and entrance is prohibited. fortunately though the outer section of path along the shore goes just outside of the main container terminal. so while the path provides great views of the fjord at the mouth of the Lågen river there are also places with decent views of the container yard and the work going on at the terminal.

i was there after hours so most of the workers had quit for the day but a front end loader was preparing blocks of stone for export. Larvikite is a popular stone and it is shipped all around the world from here. steel and wood products are also among the goods exported. imports are mainly agricultural equipment and raw materials

there are two shipping cranes. i'll have to come back when they are in operation

it may seem like most of the containers are from the Danish company Maersk but that is just a coincidence. while obviously other European companies are represented there are also containers from China, the USA and to a lesser extent other parts of the world

it looked like a storm was brewing, the wind was picking up but it didn't amount to much
