friday market in mapusa

friday is market day in mapusa. while there is a market everday of the week, friday is special and the market is far more busy.

one such ware that is only available on friday are these hand made bamboo baskets and mats of all different sizes. men and to a lesser extent women from the burud caste in villages around north goa weave them throughout the week and the ladies gather to sell them in the market. of course it is a social gathering for them as well and they make the most of it.

the back side of the market is the wholesale section. here bananas are sold by the whole branch.

the main market has pretty much all kinds of food items but so much more. it would be easier to list what is not available than what can be bought on a friday in mapusa

Those bright colors are a treat for the eyes and I adore the baskets. I truly appreciate the work that goes into the weaving of them.

I read your post and upvoted it 100% and reposted it. I apologize that it has been a week so busy that I didn't have time to finish personal messages on each post. For this, I am sorry as that is the best part of the challenge. (Honestly, reading is, you have no idea how much I learn!) Please know that this doesn't happen often and #MarketFriday enjoys having the opportunity to make a dash around the world weekly.

Thank you for participating in the challenge!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through by their markets, especially local markets and farmers markets and eventually branching out and evolving over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact of what is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
