a walk to and under the Tvinnefossen waterfall, Norway

the road along Innviksfjorden between Stryn and Nordfjordeid is called the Panorama Road for good reason. there are plenty of great views of the fjord and snow-capped mountains with several other cultural and natural attractions along the way. here is the view from the parking place for the walk to Tvinnefossen.

the beginning of the walk passes a few houses, the first seems to be a previous permanent residence that has become a summer house. it must be amazing to live here but i get it, life here comes with a number of hardships especially in the long dark winter and we are seeing it at the time of year when life is easiest.

the folks living here have decorated the exterior walls in very creative ways

and with the wildflowers in bloom (these are foxgloves Digitalis purpurea) the place could not be more idyllic

past the houses and the farm we came to through a thick forest on the steep slope down to the fjord below

and soon reached the waterfall shooting out from the mountainside

it's not the highest falls in the area nor the one with the most water flowing but this one has a path, albeit rough and in places slippery, that leads under it

a view of the fjord through the falls. we arrived before the main tourist season and the weather was a bit rainy so we had the falls to ourselves the whole time we were there.

i was taking shots from all angles, trying out different shutter speeds on my S22 phone camera

the falls were thin enough to see partially through the white foaming water

but the water hitting the rocks was my favorite motif

after fully taking in the delightful scene we returned back

past the farmhouse with the twin milk pails. i joked that these were placed here to signify the twin falls, with the white milk pouring out of the twin pails. however the name Tvinnefossen actually means the twisting falls. as in twisting threads together to make twine. and in slang if someone is calling you a tvinne it means they think you are a wimp. perhaps towards the end of a dry summer the flow of water approaches a trickle...

but there are a pair of twins again.

i'm still thinking about that yellow house. i wonder if just maybe the owner might be willing to sell it. no no, on second thought maybe better to rent it
