🍎Fruits of Labor🫐

Storms and frost were brutal early on this spring, and last year, I didn't get any red raspberries because of the late freeze. This is the first time we've had them! And this was the initial run. I expect about a quart as the patch is new but very resilient after 3 years.

The blueberries now, only one of the seven bushes are producing as they are all still acclimating to their new locations. Not bad though, in total I've pulled off about two cups so far and it's probably half way through its berry popping.

The blue raspberries (my personal favorites) have been amazing as usual. Got another half gallon yesterday, which puts the count to just over 2 gallons total. May have to try and make some wine this year again!

So I've cultivated a whole new patch of blackberries the past few years and knocked the other ones out as these are more easily accessible for picking along the fence. And wow, this first run has seen some beasties, almost strawberry sized!

This is also the first year that any of the apple trees have bore fruit! Granny Smiths. Fukn yum. We lost all the peaches during the tornado week and I thought all the apples too, but, nope! Here some be.

The fruits of labor. I now have 3/4 of a full fence line with the blue raspberries. Two sections of reds, one that is doing extremely well. My blueberries by the house, apple and peach trees. The blackberry fence line, and grapes! They got their asses kicked by the frost too though and I found a new growth from old roots I thought I had gotten all of upon transplanting the others! Still want cherries, pomegranate and the girls like plums apparently, so those too. Add that to the honeysuckle and I may just have my orchard up and running in a few years yet! How about you, do you REMEMBER TO BE YOU! I always am, even with arms full thorns. (Does that make me a rose?)

If climate allowed it, I'd be happy planting and harvesting these variety of fruits. It's just a satisfying experience harvesting something you've grown in your place.

Very much so. I really like the fruit because it's perennial, unlike most vegetables that have to be planted every year.

I love it when we grow part or all of our fruit or vegetable consumption. I believe it is more healthy than the ones bought in the mall.

Thanks for sharing your story.

They are a finicky bush. Took awhile to have them produce more than a mouthful !LOLZ

Fresh berries for breakfast! OR a fruit salad with a scoop of ice cream for dessert.

So I'm not familiar with blue raspberries. How different are they in taste from the red ones?

We're fortunate we have a massive blackberry bush in our yard. The boys love to go pick them. It's hard to beat a warm blackberry in Summer. 😁

The red ones are a sweeter variety of berries. They taste almost like a Walmart strawberry - because, you know they pick them green so the sugars don't all run. And yes, the blackberries are one of my favs because I'm a big sweet and sour fan. !PIMP !DOOK !WINE

There used to be a small garden with the trees of mulberry in my campus but after covid the trees have been cut down, the trees that are there now bear no fruit, we can't pluck fresh mulberries by ourselves !
Looking at your given pictures I recalled my memory....

Mulberries! There is a wild little patch about a quarter mile down the road. Gonna try and get some seeds and grow some!

Looking good! I was out in my garden the other day and I noticed my garlic has some scapes coming up. No berries to be found though!

Ya, this was the first run on the reds, they coincide later with the blacks so will get enough for a cobbler or pie at least methinks.
