One of the few things every society experience from time to time is development but we never take time to analyse how some of this development erodes our norms and traditions as humans. The most advanced sector is technology, it brings about innovative solutions that drives the rest of the sector in the society. One of the most notable areas in technological advancements is how it has managed to slowly erase the analogue world we used to know and slowly we are diving into full digitalisation. A world of endless possibilities, as beautiful as this might seem, it does comes with its own impediment.
It was said, when the world was operating on analogue, things were kind of slow. I mean having to combine human effort to machine, kind of feels a little bit tiring. In our effort to make living more bearable, automated device were introduced, with capabilities of following inputted commands with zero human effort. The world is filled with lot of these devices going around, the most common among these digital objects, is our smartphones. An object that has become the center of attention and also becoming the closest thing to every human heart, due to the rate we depend on it for performing our day to day activities.

When smartphones was first introduced, it's features were limited. It was good enough for our present need at the moment but then human needs is insatiable. As time goes on, the need for additional features arose and humans with the business mindsets and resources took advantage of this needs. Now we have every human roaming the streets with a smartphone in their hands. Since it is no longer just a device to make and receive calls, all kind of activities could be performed on it and also, it has increased our access to specific things, most especially information.
With the current capabilities of our smartphones, there is really no where on earth that people can't make use of their smartphones, in the bathroom, kitchen, restroom, in transit, in traffic, while eating and while crossing the road. Everyone is fixated on their devices that it feels like without it we can't breathe. This is an habit that wasn't forced upon us, we willingly chose this path due to the rate at which we make use of our gadgets.

Would it be okay to ban the usage of phones during specific time at home? while growing up, my parents were never the type to speak with words, just by looking at you, you are already aware of what you are doing wrong. One of the few events I know that no one will ever make use of their phones even if it is ringing, it is during morning and night devotion or while eating or cooking in the kitchen. You know the funny part is that, none of us were told that it is wrong, we just know we shouldn't try it because you will never see my parents doing this, so we just assume that it was wrong.
It is an habit I have cultivated from my parents and till this day, you would never see me making use of my phone during any of those period I mentioned. It was not as if my parents implemented a phone ban policy, even if it was, we never considered it as infringement of our rights. Well, having a Nigerian parents, who are you to have rights? 😅 what is wrong - is wrong because they say so and I'm glad they did. When I eventually have a family of my own, it is a policy I would gladly implement.

I agree with you. Who are you to have right? Haha.
Nonetheless, you approached this matter well and made relevant points that resonates well.
Exactly.
