The Consequences Of Strike In The Medical Sector
I was rushed to Primary Health Care but it was locked. The security told us the hospital was on strike.
I was going through pains, life was going out of me, but the hospital was locked. It was just like a thirsty man seeing water but couldn't access it.
We didn't have enough money but we just had to opt for a private hospital. At the end of the day, we spent three times what we would have spent in the government hospital but the good news is I got better.
Now imagine all the doctors, including private hospitals were on strike, I probably would have been gone some months back and if I still survived, only God knows how severe the disease would have escalated before the strike was over.
As much as I believe our lives rest in the hands of the creator, no man has the power to give it. I still regard and acknowledge the place of the doctors and other medical personnel.
These people deal with life, and a brief moment of absence from them can lead to a mass loss of lives. How many people lost their lives as a result of doctors not being on duty on the day they were brought in? Many, I bet, I know of a few.
My mind quickly flashes to accident cases. One's fate in that situation sometimes depends on how quickly they get medical attention, a delay in such can lead to a serious problem.
Imagine, one is taken to the hospital in that condition and then the hospital is on strike, wouldn't that be a serious problem?
If there is any sector that should never go on strike at all, it is the health sector. Lives rest in their hands; a little moment of absence can result in something disastrous.
Unfortunately, the health sector too goes on strike. Whenever their needs are not being met, they also shut down to call on the government's attention to themselves.
I don't want to say it's a selfish decision because they are also humans. They have families, they also have a life to live. There are also times they go on strike for the good of the people, especially when there are no supplies to carry out their duties effectively.
I am amazed whenever I hear that the salaries of health personnel sometimes get delayed. In my opinion, these people need to be the first to receive their payment and have other allowances to motivate them to do their jobs well.
But we live in a funny world, those in the government are mostly concerned about their gains than what will benefit the masses.
Will A Strike Worth It If the Government Finally Pays Attention?
Let's be realistic. Some governments don't pay attention to things that don't benefit them until they realize it is about to sabotage their image.
Sometimes, until they hear that all the hospitals have shut down and people are dying due to lack of medical attention before they act.
Hospital strike calls the government's attention faster than anything but will it be worth the lives that would pass away during that period due to their absence?
I don't support any form of strike from the health centers, the disadvantages usually outweigh the advantages but I won't blame them, sometimes it's the only option they often have.
But this has to stop, the government needs to be responsible, they don't even need to wait until certain things are being demanded from that sector before they are provided.
If they would joke with anything at all, it shouldn't be the health sector. I am sure if everything is in place, there won't be a need for a strike.

The primary health care was on strike. What a nation we live in, what a nation that we want to raise a family in. A nation where everything is failing, nothing is working. Nigeria is just "I don't even know what to describe it as".
Seriously, our government has failed us but what can we do? Sometimes we are also contributing to it
I would definitely say that the time like this should never come, doctors are really very important.
That's right.. time like that should never come.. Doctors strike is not always nice
