The Addictive Nature Of Phones: How Our Phones Are Affecting Our Lives
We are in an era where our phones and computers are the lead of the day. Life has become so digital, that we spend most of our time with our phones or on our computers, trying to keep up with the world rather than with other things.
A friend was telling me how he got so engaged working on his phone one time that he forgot that he hadn't eaten and had not taken his bath.
Today, both parents and children are so phone-attached that even when discussing critical issues, you would find one or more persons touching their phones.
We are so attached to these devices that we no longer find the physical world attractive. Someone would wake up from morning until night and all he or she does is stay on the phone, the only thing that separates them sometimes is probably a meal or sleep and the routine continues the next day.
The annoying part is some of them are only having fun and not archiving anything reasonable from it.
It's funny the way giving attention to phones consumes time and resources more than anything else.
I woke up one morning and I said let me check out something on Facebook before I go out to do my chores. Before I knew it, I spent almost two hours and I didn't know what I was really doing on the app.
Time is also a currency, that is why using it is called “spending,” its unfortunate that this currency, once spent, can't be gotten back. This is why we ought to spend it judiciously.
I understand that the majority of people work online, and as a result, they have to spend more time on their devices but then we don't work 24 hours non-stop, there is time for everything, when we find the occasion, I think it is wisdom to keep these devices aside and simply spend time with ourselves, loved ones, and nature.
Coming back to the question, seriously, I can't tell how long I can stay without my phone, I am among those I would like to tag “the phone addicts.”
I use my phone every time, and while doing almost everything, even while eating, and sometimes, It is not even for something productive.
I can barely go one hour without touching my phone. The only thing that can make me go two hours without interacting with my phone apart from sleep and work, perhaps it's power failure.
It has become a habit and I have tried to break free many times to no avail.
These devices are affecting our relationships with people, making us cold and the bad one is the effect of the reflection of screen rays on our eyes.
There was a time I got so committed to the phone, I was on it morning and night, in the name of looking for money, and guess what started happening to me after some days?
My eyes began to itch badly, and just like that tears began to drop from it. At that point, I needed no one to advise me to take a break.
My mom used to tease me that most young people in our day won't have sound eyes in their fifties and sixties because of how much we expose our eyes to light rays from phones.
And I think I agree with her because some young people at their young ages are already experiencing this problem.
Phones are here for our good but we ought to use them wisely. Life is not meant to be spent revolving around the phone alone.
There are other things to do with our time, things like working, resting and creating good relationships with our family and neighbors.
Most people today are poor at maintaining physical conversations, even with their children or spouse, just five minutes into conversation with them, and they are already trying to touch something on the phone as if they are being controlled.
The truth is we are spending more time on our phones than expected and it is not a good thing, the earlier we cut away from the habit the better it will be for us.
We must manage by creating a healthy balance between the use of cell phones and computers and our social life. This is the only way to avoid becoming hostages to these technologies and maintain our essence as human beings.
Exactly, that balance is what we need. Phones have become a part of us, we can't do without them but if we put a balance, it will do is good
It is true how a lot of us have wasted precious times on things irrelevant rather than being productive and the earlier we focus more on growth the better.
Sometimes when I check the kind of time I spend on social media doing nothing, I marvel. Sometimes we need to keep these devices and enjoy the physical world
