Scaling Through Examination Tension

School is fun, going for lectures and hanging out with friends can be so eventful until you hear that examination is around the corner.

Just the word “Examination” alone carries a special weight that has the potency to make every student adjust and become serious for a moment.

I remember back then in school, students would be moving around, partying and being unserious, but the moment they hear that examination is near, each of them repents and begins to take school seriously.

That is the time, you would see the library full, that is when tutorials become full, that's when reading till day breaks commences.

It is that period, you find it difficult to differentiate between serious and unserious students because even the unserious one wears the mask of seriousness because no one wants to fail. Even the ones who know they would fail, LOL.

I won't lie, I am among those who freak out whenever they hear the word “Examination” from the lecturer/ teachers. For me, it is even worse when I see the time table.

It is not as if I am scared of it but there is this restlessness it creates in me that takes away my peace.

However, even though the consciousness of examination brings tension and fear, knowing I am set for it helps me to pull myself together.

This is why I prepare seriously for examinations like my life depends on it. Proper preparation is the only thing that gives me motivation.

For examination preparation techniques, I am someone who loves reading alone. I understand and assimilate things faster when I am the only one studying.

During that time, I read, jot down a few points and memorize them. Sometimes, I try to recite them aloud off hand or get a piece of paper and write down what I have studied offhand.

After doing that, I get past question papers for like two or three different years, and go through it, try to answer the questions and study the ones I have not yet understood.

However, I prefer it when I am given areas of concentration, it makes the work easy for me because I'll know where to focus on and the past question papers will make it easier as I would have a clue on how the questions would look like.

This method has been very effective for me. It has been my way of preparing for examinations right from secondary school.

Reading alone is a good technique for some students just like myself. I prefer lone reading except when we have something to brainstorm about. But then, I wasn't a fan of area of concentration, I often called it area of confusion, sometimes what is marked is different from the actual area of concentration given. I prefer to read randomly

Hahaha, actually sometimes it happens that way.. that's why I read first before using the areas of confusion later 😂

Students, including myself, love it when we are given AOC as it helps simplify our readings and only focuses on the particular topics to read instead of travelling miles. Lol
Proper preparation sure brings motivation during exams.

That area of concentration is often very helpful. You would know exactly where to read and how to practice your past question if you have any..

Being given AOC and also using past question papers does help a lot. I have a lecturer back then in my first year, he's a different kind of person entirely...You see that part he gave as AOC is the part you shouldn't even bother to go through at all...😁

Thanks for sharing.

Honestly, the exams period makes everyone serious. Everyone doesn't want to fail.

Your techniques and approach to examination are really nice. The idea of reading and jotting down points is helpful. Then the past questions also. These are helpful approaches.

Every student feel tensed during exam period. Exam carries its own aura, the moment a student knows it is approaching, it feels like judgement day.

In my school, we don't really trust some lecturers AOC (areas of concentration) because sometimes it turns to "Area of confusion". I prefer to just read the whole thing and hope for the best.
