If Happiness Could Be Bought

(Edited)

Happiness is one of the priceless things in life. It is something that respects neither money, nor silver, nor gold, nor class, nor background, nor anyone's predicament.

The subject of happiness is very complicated. It is free, yet not everyone can have it, and if a price is attached to it, who can afford it?

It is very common in our world today to hear people express their concern about not being happy. You would see people who have literally everything in life complaining that they are not happy.

You will also hear people who lack everything, and those who are average, also complaining that they lack happiness.

Looking at the matter closely, one may be tempted to ask, “Is happiness something realistic?”

The short answer is “yes,” and the reason why, although many desire it, but only a few end up having it, is because happiness is a state of life that can only be accessed and maintained by a currency called “choice.”

Regardless of one's class or financial status, if one decides to tune their choice towards happiness, they will arrive at that destination.

Sadly, many want to be happy but don't want to pay the price; they want it to come to them without them necessarily doing anything.

Unfortunately, that is not how it works, and even if one manages to be happy without necessarily deciding it, such happiness will be a fleeting happiness.

No one would say he or she has never experienced happiness before, but where is the happiness right now? Gone, and probably present only when excited by circumstances.

Happiness comes to everyone, but it doesn't last for everyone. This is where many get it wrong and begin to complain. To have lasting happiness, we need to perpetually choose to be happy.

Circumstances will come, troubles will come, disappointment will come, but with all those things happening, if you continually choose to be happy, you will be happy.

Having said all this, I doubt if I would buy the idea of buying happiness with physical currency even if it were affordable.

Come to think of it, how much happiness would you buy to come to a state where you would feel you have enough?

This is something we are supposed to build and grow in; trying to use shortcuts will only delay our journey to building and enjoying genuine happiness.

I don't know if you have ever had this feeling, you were expecting something and then suddenly it comes as success, immediately, you would be happy and feel like you won everything in life, but a few hours later, that feeling disappears.

This says it all: if money can buy happiness, how long will it last? Do we have enough money to keep buying it?

I can also imagine people trying to cheat nature by going to buy happiness when they are supposed to be sad over something they ought to be sad for in order to learn a lesson.

Again, the rich might end up being the happiest even if the happiness is cheap, because no matter how affordable it is, there would be days the poor man can't afford to buy it, does that mean he should be unhappy during that moment?

Happiness is not supposed to be bought; that's like cheating nature. That is why God made it the way it is. If you want happiness, build it, make it a habit, and it will be a natural part of you.

This is a lovely submission. Happiness is a choice that we constantly have to make in an imperfect world because in a perfect one, no one would have to suffer to pay any price to be happy. That is torture.

But again, that is the situation we find ourselves in. Happiness doesn't come easy, so we are made to endure all the struggles and intentionally choose joy.

Gbam, this said it all. It's a sad reality we have to admit. Happiness doesn't come easy, it's a thing of choice regardless of our situations

I believe if happiness were to be for sale, it won't have much meaning anymore, or let's say it will become something you have to keep on su subbing too, same way we do with data. So, when it finishes, sadness sets in.
