I Always Look Forward To This Day

December is a very special month, apart from the fact that it the last month of the year, it has also Christmas celebration attached to it. It's one of the months that many people look forward to see.

Very soon around 18-24th the roads will be very busy as people will be traveling from different places to their villages, homes, and so on, to celebrate with their loved ones. Except it's an emergency if not I don't enjoy celebrating Christmas outside my home town with my family.

I remember, there was a year I had to travel back home on 25th December, I did all I could to stay where I was but something kept telling me you are missing a lot just go home.

Thank God it was just a four-hour journey, I suffered before getting a car but I got one subsequently, for the first time in my life, I saw a federal road so quiet and lonely. This is to tell you how much people value the month of December.

Do you think, people travel out risking their lives on the road to be with their loved ones just because they loved traveling? Yeah, some might love traveling but the majority don't do it because they love to travel but because there is something special happening at home that they don't want to miss out on.

Different families have different ways of enjoying this special season, some go on a family vacation, some have a special feast, especially in villages, and some it's even nothing, it's just to see the faces of their parents and siblings.

Well, in my family, every December 30th is slated for a family end-of-the-year meeting/ party, it's one of the biggest events that happens in my family every year, and no matter what happens, that meeting always holds.

There is always enough food to enjoy after the discussion. It's not something big but it's fun, especially the food aspect, Christmas is always full of rice, salad, and the like but in this meeting, it's a traditional food that is always prepared, the one I love so much is our traditional beans prepared with beni seed and palm oil. Gosh, I always look forward to that day lol

One thing I love about the meeting is the fact that I get to see every member of our extended family, those who travel far and near will always come back home with their children, it was through that meeting I got to know most of my cousins.

In that same meeting, our biggest uncle always tries to reconcile those who are not on good terms with each other. He Always asks "if there is anyone who is holding a grudge against another " If anyone responds, he gives them room to talk, and there and then the two of them are reconciled. He always says "It is not good to cross over into a new year holding someone in your heart"

This is one event that I and my family always experience every year in December, no matter what happens.

Family time together is one of the biggest thing December makes happen for us, I know that feeling of missing out when away from family during this period, and the food is enough reason not to miss out on family fun this December period.

LoL.. you are right food isn't enough reason, the love, the atmosphere, presence of our loved one is also a big reason but you see that food aspect 😁😁 I wish you can have a taste of that beans

For the same reason that you mention, I don't like to travel during these dates, in my case there are many reckless drivers on the roads and highways who may be under the influence of alcohol.

Most of our family (my wife's and mine) are out of the country, but we do our best to communicate with them during these dates through video calls via WhatsApp.

Even down here there are so many reckless drivers on the way but we entrust all into God's hands . Celebrating without our family isn't always fun, that's why most people travel by all means

In my own state, beginning from the 21st, everywhere is almost looking empty. People don't let transport fare and the economy stop them from travelling and going home to be with family and enjoy themselves. I like the spirit!

Sincerely,I love what your uncle does. He gives no room for hatred to fester. Speak your mind, thrash the issue there and enjoy the love of Family. If I were there, it may just be the highlight for me.

December is a very special day for almost everybody. I spend December with my family I don't travel. We mostly stay at home, eat, and vibe

Traveling is very risky during this season, since you are already with your family, there is no need to travel. Most people travel to see their families..

People value Christmas in Nigeria, I went to the park to get a parcel yesterday and I saw people traveling for Christmas, I was so amazed because the park was full, Christmas is a season that we all cherish. #dreemeeforlife

I did all I could to stay where I was but something kept telling me you are missing a lot just go home.

I once had this experience and I adamantly pulled through. Mehn, it wasn't easy at all. The urge to travel home was something else... having the feeling that a carnival-like party was going on at home 😄
