Government Policy On Family Size, Another Way To Make Life Better

The way the earth's population is growing is becoming so alarming. We are about 8.2 billion in the world yet marriages are still taking place and people are still giving birth every day.

Everywhere is gradually getting crowded, opportunities are gradually becoming scarce, and pressure is becoming much on natural resources and the environment.

There are so many graduates on the streets, so many skilled and intelligent people out there without jobs.

Surviving is now very difficult, even those who have decided to be self-employed by taking drastic measures to survive without the government's support are no longer safe as competition is on the increase every day.

Values that ought to be scarce are now so available that worth is no longer placed on them. It hurts how you start a little business hoping to make a living out of it, only to see ten more people on the same street rendering the same service.

The issue of overpopulation is one of the biggest problems of many countries. No matter how poor a place is, if the number of people matches the available resources, the situation might be easy to handle but when the opposite is the situation, it will only take the intervention of God for things to go well.

In view of that, if the government decides to control the rate at which people give birth, suggesting a fair number and also providing some support for people to start up life, I think it would be great.

I wonder if some people think before giving birth in this generation. At least our predecessors made the mistake due to a lack of knowledge, but we don't have to make similar mistakes.

Even if you have the resources and the ability to cater for many children, I don't think it would be wise to go ahead and produce a battalion.

Think of the economy, think of unforeseen circumstances. What if you die, what becomes of the children? Some might say if I have the resources, my wife is there to take care of them, I won't dispute that but don't forget she's human too. She may break down if the load becomes too great on her.

Also consider the earth, if you gave birth to 20 children, and your neighbor gave birth to 20 children too, how would the world be?

Imagine how jobs would be scarce, imagine how people would be suffering. This is what is happening in Nigeria currently. Due to how scarce opportunities are, people have to buy jobs that ought to be their rights.

Those who don't have the money to buy, have to switch to doing just anything possible to earn even if it's illegal.

But if every family had just two children, for instance, things would have been better. At Least everyone will get something to hold on to and the resources may sustain us.

Am I saying having many children is wrong? Not at all, children are blessings from God and hope to the world. Nevertheless, we ought to check a lot of things before bringing them here.

If the government enacts such a law, I think it will go a long way to make things better even though we are not ignorant of corruption. Some evil-hearted people will still do bad things, seizing opportunities only for themselves and their families but it won't be as bad as it is.

However, this rule might also come with its disadvantages. It may increase the rate of abortion which may lead to an increase in infertility and death.

People may begin to see abortion as an option they should embrace to escape the law. Even the government might end up encouraging it and it won't be nice.

Although, the rule has its downsides too, but weighing it with the perks, I think it's something that should be embraced.
