Cash Rewards Isn't The Best

Cash Reward Isn't The Best

I so much respect those who genuinely come out as the best in their department/faculty when it comes to education. I said "genuinely" because nowadays, people have other means to be at the top even without doing much.

It's not easy to commit oneself to study when you have the opportunity to enjoy your life and give just a little effort and come out with a grade that will still make you valid when you go to seek a job.

Seriously, those who come out as best ought to be honored and celebrated, everyone can wish to be the best but not everyone can pay the price. Being on top is a priceless jewel.

Different institutions have different ways to celebrate these individuals, most times giving them awards and other gifts. But I don't think those things are ever enough.

Well, those institutions who give gifts are even trying, some don't even give out anything apart from a wooden trophy or a certificate with the person's name inscribed on it.

It may look like a way to appreciate them but I don't think it's enough motivation to spur them to keep up the good work and also to push others to want to be like them.

Gone are the days when people valued those things, nowadays to convince people to do something, you need to do what is uncommon.

For the question of whether to give top students money as motivation, I think that's an excellent idea but it won't do the person well.

Considering the kind of economy we have today, how much money can such a student be given that will ever be enough for him or her to do something reasonable?

There used to be a practice back then in many institutions regarding the best students. Those days, the institution retained them as workers in that very faculty. To me, that's the best award a student can be given, especially now that job opportunities are rare.

People like that ought to be given opportunities, they ought to be offered jobs and not money. How many days will it take them to squander it? The fact that one is brilliant academically doesn't mean the person is also brilliant money-wise. Give him or her a job and let them start up their lives.

I believe that if things like these are done, most students will put in their best to be the best because they know that an automatic job opportunity awaits them in the end.

But unfortunately, many top students today are in the street struggling to survive. Imagine after spending many sleepless nights, making so much sacrifice to top the class, one still ends up struggling and moving from one private institution to the other in search of a job. Some organizations even reject them because of their good grade, LOL. It sounds unfair, honestly.

Giving money won't solve the problem, because I am sure the money won't even be something to write home about, rather those students should be empowered, and they should have access to good jobs in the government.

This will make their labor count, they won't even feel like they wasted their time. Money and any other form of gift in my opinion should be an extra reward and not the main thing itself, those students deserve something better and tangible.

Thank You For

Truly right @emreal . Cash reward may not show so much impact, but employment is something that is more cherished.

Exactly, things are difficult now, cash will not take long before it finishes but you see you a job will last for long

I totally agree with you, an employment placement is a better offer that can be giving to the best graduating student so as to better their lives

I did not agree too that it must be money centered, if it is then hardwork would be based on the money not their real capabilities

I like the fact how you said employment should be given in return to reward best graduating students as this will also encourage others to work hard.

Very true, when you see the best student being rewarded with a good job, no one needs to advise you to work hard

Funny how a first class graduate would be riding keke and arguing with street touts due to condition..
May God honestly help us.

Just had to smile a bit while I was reading this as it reminded me of a program we have in Canada that I kept trying to get my sons to go into.

In Canada we have the ROTC (Registered Officer Training Program). Quick version is that in the final year of high school students can apply to work for the Armed Forces as an officer. They agree to train with the forces every summer and work hard at University to get a degree. For every year you study you are obligated to work for the Government for a year after graduation. Guaranteed income while you study. Food, Housing and education paid for while you study. Guaranteed job with fair wage after you graduate.

Sounded like a great idea to me.

Both of my sons said they didn't want to follow that path.

However, it did sound like what you had hoped for. Help with education and guaranteed job at the end :)

Wow, if there was such program down here, many people wouldn't hesitate to seize the opportunity. In the case of your sons, I respect their decisions, not everyone wants to be in the military hehhe.

Thanks for stopping by sir 🥰

I think it is pretty smart on the governments part. Get the best and brightest from high school. Make sure they get the best training an a good job/wage. Ensures we get quality soldiers (hopefully)

I support you there are many ways to reward the empowerment you said is really nice. Most need to ask their self this question if gifting a child for academic brilliance if is right

Seriously that money isn't the best, sometimes the money isn't even something big.

While granting them employment is great, I think giving them reasonable monetary reward is also good. The pride associated with such gift is more important than the value. It shows that society appreciates hard work.

You are right sir, both the cash and the job are important especially when they come at the right time hehhe

The caption almost made me disagree with you, haha 😄. But your points are valid and I think I understand what you mean. So, it is better to give them a hook(job or something that fetches money) instead of fish(cash).

You do have a point but then, I also think you are writing from a Nigerian's POV only. Because, actually, the money they award them is nothing! Money is not a bad thing for real, if it's tangible enough. A lot of people are embracing entrepreneurship nowadays and such cash rewards can help set themselves up.

You are right, I don't really know what the need out there is but from this part of the world, I think most of us would prefer the job rather than money.

Thanks so much for reading ma🙏🥰
