A Piece Of Advice That Changed My Life
A Piece Of Advice That Changed My Life
Life will bring us across many people who would contribute either positively or negatively to our lives. I have learned by experience to value and honor anyone I come across even on the streets because we don't really know who will transform our lives.
Back in those days, the Bible captured that angels usually take the form of men to come down to the earth to dispense blessings. Those days, people were not taken for granted especially strangers. But in our day, the reverse is the case, we honor people based on what they have. Our judgments are based on what our eyes can see.
I have been hearing about destiny helpers for a long and I used to think that they were often very wealthy, prestigious, and popular people, but that only happens in movies, your destiny helper can be anyone, regardless of status, class, and so on. I mean your destiny helper can even be one casual farmer in the village, we never can tell. I am saying this so that we will begin to create space in our hearts to honor all men.
Sometimes what might transform your life might not even be money literally, it could be just a word of advice, it could be just getting the right information, it could be anything at all. Just be smart and open your eyes wide
During one of my visits to Plateau State, I decided that I was not going to sit at home and do nothing, I was going to work. I and my elder sister started looking for job opportunities and we eventually stumbled upon one, but it was sales boy, the pay was a bit fair but I was not just comfortable serving under someone. I know the nature of the job, I hate being ordered around and that's part of this very job.
I told my sister, that I was not interested, she tried to convince me to take the job for a start but I declined. One Sunday, after service, while I was about to go home, my sister's brother-in-law called me. I was so surprised because he is a very quiet man with a very serious face apart from greetings, nothing joins me with him.
When I came we exchanged greetings and he said "Emmanuel, you are a young man, this is the right time to plan your life, don't despise little beginnings, build yourself, read books, go on research, and make sure you get relevant information. Value nowadays is attached to what you know and what you can offer. Don't embrace idleness, get up from your comfort zone and start from somewhere."
I don't know whether my sister told him about what happened or not but those words sank deep into my heart, I appreciated him and we parted ways. Throughout that night I was just contemplating what he told me. He spoke so much but what got stuck in my head was "Don't despise little beginnings".
The following day which was a Monday, I told my sister I was going for the sales boy job and she was surprised. I took the job and I didn't regret it at all. I started making my own money, I could buy whatever I wanted for myself and also support my parents, a dream come through.
I left Jos for my hometown in Nasarawa, a transformed man, I stopped looking down on jobs, as far as it will get me something to eat, I don't mind starting from there. As soon as I got back, I took a teaching job with a very small payment and I was just managing there. I didn't despise the small job, the little payment kept increasing gradually until it got to a fair state, though I left the job last year for some personal reasons.
His advice became the reason why even if things aren't giving me the kind of results I wanted, provided I am doing it the way it is supposed to, I don't give up but keep pushing because I know that every big thing begins as a little thing.
If we say we want to hit a jackpot before we start up something good with our lives, we may live and die without getting anywhere at all. If you can't start when it's little, I bet you you even when it's big, you wouldn't be able to handle it.
To date, I am not afraid to start small. Life starts from somewhere. It might not look like it at the beginning but the end is what matters. Life is all about patience, the beginning doesn't always look big. If you are moved by big things alone then, I'll advise you to quickly work on yourself before you lose a very big opportunity.
Well, we are still in touch, the last time I went to Jos he was a pastor, and I was so happy about that, throughout my stay for that period, I was fellowshiping with them.
It was indeed a piece of advice that changed you and helped you to know the reality. Because of it you went out of your comfort zone and made you a better person compared to past times.
Indeed some piece of advice is capable enough to change our life.
