Super Power? Yes.

I once heard someone say her super power is her ability to fall asleep anywhere. That is really interesting, I mean I want to be able to fall asleep whenever and wherever but what if there's a party? I don't want to fall asleep at a party, or even at a job interview. Anyways, anything can be a super power right? It doesn't necessarily have to be reading minds, or telepathy or the ones we see in movies. The thing about super powers most times is that we don't even know it's there until someone notices or something happens and boom, a time traveler is born, hehe just kidding.

When it comes to super powers, I know I have a few unconventional superpowers. I can really read fast, during my days in high school. None of my friends would want to read with me because, I cover up pages faster than they do and the feeling was quite mutual. If I'm reading with someone from a hardcopy, I hated to wait for few minutes before we can finally turn over to the next page. Although, I usually have an edge over others because , when it comes to interesting hard copy novels and it happens that everyone in my friend group wanted to read it, they'll always let me read first because, it's certain that by the next day, I would have read hundreds of pages from the novel or maybe finished entirely with the book.

Asides that, I figured out something very different about myself. Have you ever been in situation where everyone is panicking and running helter- skelter, and you're the only one seemingly less affected by the situation? I'm talking about being in a place full of chaos and you're literally the only calm person there? Well, I don't know how else I can describe myself. My level of calmness when something serious is going on actually scares me sometimes, because how is everyone around me panicking and I'm not?

I didn't know it was quite obvious till one of my close friends told me. There was this one time she posted a video on her Whatsapp status about a group of girls who were making a video of themselves in an elevator and coincidentally the light went off. The elevator stopped midway and threw the entire group in a frenzy. That would've been the normal reaction from a regular person, when I reacted to the video, here was what she replied;

It was totally unexpected when she said that but it wasn't surprising. I already know I act that was but what I didn't know was how obvious it was. You know that saying about not crying over spilled milk? Well, maybe I took it personally. The thing is, when something bad happens, I don't have my mind fixed on the problem. My thoughts always goes like,what's the way forward? Thinking of a possible solution to the problem at hand helps me to remain calm even when others are panicking.

I don't even know if this is actually a super power because most times it makes me look bad, because a lot of people misunderstand me. I've had a few people tell me that I can be so unbothered and indifferent at a time where I'm supposed to show emotions. But how do I explain that I'm not being indifferent. In my head, I am thinking about whatever has happened but in a different light. In a way that makes me find a solution that may ease the situation, if it is within my power to take some measure of control.

I know there are lot more people in the world who have this ability. Just last week, my classmate ran into the bad guys and the took away all his gadgets. As a student developer, nothing could've been more painful losing a PC, your phones and other useful gadgets, but nonetheless he came to class the next day all cheerful and smiley, as if nothing even happened. Now that is a super power if you ask me, not everyone can be that cool. So in the end, it doesn't matter if you can't shoot lasers with your eyes, or teleport yourself to wherever you want. If there's something you just do differently, that could be your super power, own it.
