Whispers and Signs
Is there anything you can say you're addicted to? Of course when we hear the word addict we usually imply it in the most derogatory terms. I certainly don't mean it that way in my postulation. What is of concern to me is the timeframe and progression that it takes to become 'addicted'.
Surely all addicts started with a single step, but for those caught in the extremes, most won't even remember it. One innocent try turns to two, three, and the rest they say is history. It is literally living out ones own tragic story and filling out the chapters with mistakes on a daily basis. Yet very few remember how page one once felt like, or before the chapter even started.
Before the storm comes though there are sometimes telltale signs to turn the tide around, and people sometimes do get the message. They may come in the form of Signs or whispers. The latter seems a bit easier to ignore. Often we numb ourselves to the point where we no longer hear the whispers and fully become controlled by our habits.
For those who still listen though there is always the opportunity to pause, stop or retrace our footsteps. I believe if one continually betrays their own self a time will come when our inner voices will cry out for help, one way or the other. The earlier we listen the better we'd all be for it.
