Voluntary Collaboration
My company consists of several departments ,(as do most companies, lol) which each unit having it's own functions and targets. Or course, the general target is that we work together as effectively and efficiently as possible for the general benefit of the company, and for the most parts I believe we do, but of course we're not perfect.
There was a little skirmish between a member of my unit and some members of another unit yesterday and I had to intervene as a voice of reason. I initially hesitated intervening because they are grown adults and the reason for the skirmish I believe was not even presentable enough. Yet It became necessary to do so simply because of the sheer time the disagreement was costing us.
I tried to make everyone see reason, and how ridiculous the argument was. My strongest point of course was the fact that we are better off when we collaborate. While the matter did settle, I don't know how much of my speech actually got through. The truth is because they have different targets and report to different heads, they are under different types of pressure to deliver. Especially for the inexperienced among them who just joined us, I might as well be wasting my breath.
But collaboration is such a wonderful thing, isn't it? If two people, or a group of people, work towards something with their full energy, there is bound to be better results. Of course convincing people is the problem, which is why many of us simply limit ourselves to our own personal capacities rather than expand our horizons.
