True Soldiers
The 80-20 rule is something that I've found very much applies to my workplace. While I try to get everyone involved, truthfully speaking There are only a handful of people in the department I supervise that I could wholeheartedly depend on to deliver the desired results from whatever task I assign them.
They show a level of dedication, competence and commitment that the others simply aren't able to show and I've rather come to accept this strange rule as norm rather than try to change it. Rather, I should say that I have tried to change the rule with disastrous results. The times I've delegated tasks to be spearhead by people outside my core team, I always get my fingers burned with the sheer nonchalance.
That's not good say that everyone doesn't contribute. Of course we probably can't achieve many things without our full team. They aren't there to just make up the numbers but I certainly wish they'd do more. Another thing is that perhaps some of them are simply waiting for bigger roles in other to step up, cause I've alsp seen instances where people surprisingly fill big shoes when nobody gives them a chance. That's of course wrong should that be the case, However it isn't for me to dwell on.
Am just glad I have been able to identify the true soldiers of my department and work with them. I engage them on a consistent basis and let them understand that the extra burden I sometimes impose on them is for the betterment of the collective. They are all unsurprisingly understanding, and appear all to happy to keep making their vital contributions. This unique principle I believe also extends to other areas of life. We always need to identify the true soldiers willing to go into battle with and for us.
