Public Validation or Personal Ego?

Whatever happened to simply thrashing out issues quietly and privately? Am a big advocate of that kind of resolution. Not every business needs to be everyone's business. It seems though that we're increasingly being led by the social media option of bringing every disagreement we encounter into the limelight.

I still wonder why some people do it, even though I understand to an extent. For those who have a huge following, there is of course endless validation from supporters and admirers alike who will take sides without a thorough introspection. It is usually those who fall in this category that run quickly to the court of public option.

There's also something related to having a massive following, which is an ego likely as big. Anyone of some form of influence tends to develop a sense of self importance based on their following alone before they hold any position of reference, or wealth. Just knowing you have thousands to millions of people, real or virtual who react to your words and actions is enough to inflate the ego on a massive scale.

I believe wisdom and emotional maturity is being thrown out the door on the grounds of needless attention seeking. Pride is getting in the way of opportunities for real and meaningful resolutions. If we continue with the court of public opinion for our private disagreements, we'll unfortunately damage whatever chances we have at a resolution.
