Naivety Lessons Part 1 - Stop Saying Sorry
I've had so many failed attempts to bring back consistency to my blogging. Believe it or nor, a few years ago I used to be one of the more active users on the platform. A couple of personal issues as well as my own weak determination brought that to a screeching halt, but it's never too late to get back on the horse right? Or so I've been told. Another reason is also a lack on inspiration. Am starting a series based on a few lessons and observations I picked up in my twenties as well as going back to sports writing.
I used to think owning up to our mistakes and quickly apologizing was more than sufficient to fix the damage. I had a friend who embodied this description and was always quick to tender an unreserved apology whenever it had been deemed he was at fault. As admirable as this trait was, the problem was that the more he apologized, the more the apologies grew. I learned that it was actually as valid to not want any apologies to begin with.
If things were as they should, then there need not be any confessions or apologies. The more we offer them, the less weight they tend to carry over time. For them to actually mean something they must be very rarely spoken, and genuinely offered. I am also quick to apologize (it tends to grow on you), but I try as much as possible to remind myself of this rather obvious fact of life and avoid saying sorry.
It's never too late!
The most sincere apology is the one you are hard-pressed to express. Apology without effort of afterthought is worthless.
