Me First?

The populist mantra has certainly polarised us and perhaps even divided us, but one can argue that we've always been divided, and will likely find other reasons to continue with the divisions. What's interesting somewhat is that at face value, there is seemingly nothing wrong with a little self love. As a matter of fact, sacrificial love where we place the needs of others above ours is quite tricky because it may stir up resentment in the long term.

Yes, self love is very important. We should rightfully consider ourselves first on quite a number of issues. The important thing about self love is that it affords is the tools necessary to extend to others. When we don't have capacity and we prioritise the needs of others, we stand the risk of potentially being unable to help both ourselves and the said third party. So I get all those things about self love.

But 'me first' doesn't 'me only' and that's where it gets tricky. We're forever mandated to differentiate between self love and selfishness which can easily cross paths if we're not careful. There is a real danger of isolation. No matter how independent or powerful one is, we need friends and allies with us that'll make the journey easier and that much fulfilling. This principle is as true for nations as it is for our individual lives. We must always thread the side of caution.

Absolutely, the line between self-love and selfishness is as thin as a dental floss! 😄 It's like trying to enjoy a sweet treat without overindulging. We need to savor the balance, ensuring we don't end up with a toothache of isolation. Thanks for the insightful post—it's a delicious food for thought! 🍬🤔
