In Whose Interest?
The art of self destruction to potentially hurt the other person isn't really new but never ceases to amaze me. Back then when I still fancied Television and Movies heroes such as Will Smith in the 'I am legend' movie were celebrated for sacrificing themselves in order to potentially save others. The keywords are sacrifice and potentially though, as some of the self destructive sabotage actions I see these days are neither borne of a sacrificial mindset nor possess any form of guarantee to a reference change in circumstances.
At a wider economic level, there are those who destroy their country or communities economic advantages or assets just to prove a point, or potentially create a new pathway for them. Burning a forest doesn't always mean new and better Trees though, as so often such varieties may be lost forever. I really can't quite grasp my head round it, yet it is among the most common occurrences we see in the economic System we have built for ourselves.
We see politicians who deliberately sabotage their Citizens (and the inverse), we see employees who sabotage their companies, we even see people acting in self sabotage. With each passing day as the third decade of my life dawns I certainly question my actions and the actions of those around me a bit more. I observe that most people do tend to act in their own interest, but not many genuinely think through what that means sufficiently. You might be acting counterproductively while assuming actions have been taken in your best interest.
The crypto space has a lot of players who act in their own selfish interests, to the destruction of the space as a whole. On a large scale we have examples like FTX and SBF. There are also smaller scale representations of this, where not much thought is put into the well being or interests of our space. I have also been guilty of actions of self sabotage perhaps a few times. Most of them are likely by inactions even though some actions could have been better executed had they been properly thought out. I reckon I should be in a much better financial position now, if the quality of my decisions were better.
Conclusion
I have often thought about what it means to be the largest stakeholder in a project if the project ultimately fails. I have also thought about what it takes to actively work against a project we're part of. Deliberately or manipulated, we ought to make better decisions on a per time basis and properly reflect. Perhaps I'll be able to look in a few years and be happy with the quality of decisions I have made financially. Anything though that doesn't work for myself and the interest of my larger community is probably not the best quality decision.
The self sabotage tendency is often executed with me. On the back of my mind, I'm sure it's not in my best interest but because of a lack of right understanding, it just happens without any input on my part. I think developing an element of conscious awareness on the background will help as we will be able to at least think things through before making a decision that's not in the interest of any.
