Heart Not Soul

A strange memory came to my mind today. It was the advice of one of my uncles who was laid off rather unceremoniously from an organisation he worked at for decades and 'helped grow'. It was a really painful experience for him and although its been a while we spoke, am quite certain he still feels deep seated resentment towards the organisation till this day.

Thw advice was in form of a warning, and while it made sense considering his plight. To give what feels like the better part of your years an organisation only to be cut off without warning will sting no matter who is involved. Yet the end isn't new, but is actually quite commonplace in our World today. We have multiple instances where people are released despite their contributions or dedication to an organisation. It begs the question of organisations are truly deserving of our effort and loyalty.

For me, it is a yes to effort and a no to loyalty. I do believe any where we find ourselves we need to put in 100% of our time and energy to achieving the organisations goals. It is because giving anything below our best hurts us from both a personal and organisational perspective. However, loyalty to an organisation is a very tricky one. If anything, there are no guarantees that even the organisation itself will survive the test of time. It is always better to not get too emotionally attached to anything you don't personally own or have a stake in. After all, that's what professionalism is all about.

My Uncle advised I don't ever pass up an opportunity for personal growth simply because of my job schedule or work life. If working for an organisation means you stop growing personally in other areas then it simply isn't worth it. I've not hid my dissatisfaction at my new work place, in contrast to my old job that I absolutely loved. That advice became a whole lot more significant as a result. I'll keep giving my company my absolute best but There's personal work to be done.

"Ah, the wisdom of uncles! 🧓 Your story is a spicy reminder that loyalty is like a rare steak—best served with caution. 🥩💼 Putting in 100% effort is the secret sauce, but getting too emotionally attached is like adding too much salt to the dish. 🧂😅 Your uncle's advice is gold—personal growth is the main course, after all! Keep rocking at your job and chasing those personal goals. 🚀🌱 #WisdomWednesday #CareerGrowth"
