At The Risk of Offending

Imagine losing complete likeness for a person over their political or religious views. Not that hard right? In 2025 this has become pretty normal as people double down on identifying across political lines.
I could understand why celebrities aren't really given benefit of doubt. I mean many of them do feel like their celebrity status gives them superior knowledge and standing over socio-political issues. We've seen a real backlash in this regard that has sorta relegated many celebrities to the confines of the Big Screens.
What I don't get is the lack of tolerance that everyday people like myself exhibit in the face of differences in opinions. It isn't treated as normal any longer to have diverging opinions and it is so bad that many people are not willing to even hear out the other side anymore, increasingly turning to echo chambers.
I made a rule during my early twenties to never block out people who I believed I got value from but didn't share my opinions - whether on social media or in real life. It isn't like I feed off dissenting opinions either if am being totally honest. I try to keep all external opinions generally to a minimum (limited mainstream social media time, fewer sources) because it can be really crazy out there.
My point is that we have to as a moral obligation create room for dissenting voices and opinions in our lives even though at a moderated rate determined by us. This self created tolerance level is the only way we cross check our excesses and prevent the cycle of hatred.
I don't particularly value "so-called" celebrities. They are usually just entertainers, many of them publicity hungry. While a few are not I'm not sure that lionizing such superficiality makes for much relevance.
