Selfish Personality// My Experience With A Man At My Mother's Shop.

I have met some people in life that are so selfish beyond doubts. At the beginning I thought is only due to an upbringing or what they have experience in their past life that makes them so hard to break or so selfish. But I came to understand is a mindsets, is started from their mind. Whatever someone is doing have always think it through his or her mind before executing it.

I met this man called Yakuza , this man is a lecturer in college of education Akwanga Nasarawa State. He used to buy food items from my mother and mostly especially he comes in buying those food items on credit and paid at month end. My mother used to sell food items like rice, beans, dry and fresh tomatoes, dry fish, and other food stuff. This man will come to my mother shop and asked my mother to give him rice and beans, then collect fish cost almost 14 thousand naira on credit. My mother used to sell on credits and do write their names on credit book.

On this faithful day, the man came to my mother's shop and I was the one selling that day, my mother has gone to the market. Already my mother told me to be checking the credits book everytime those her usual customers come to buy something and remind them of their depts or money they are yet to pay. This man came and asked for another four measures of rice, I quickly checked the credit book and I told him sir there's an unpending dept or credit you are yet to pay, and the totally amounts is 18 thousand naira only. This man started ranting and shouting at me, callings me a stupíd and used different kind of bad names on me.

He said I don't have réspect and manner, why would I tell him he still have unpending depts or credit to pay if not I will not give him the food items he requested from me?. He told me he came and collected the food items on credit with my mother and I have no right to ask him to pay except my mother.

I was trying to make him understand that my mother said each time they came to buy something I should remind them of the credits they are yet to pay. But this man doesn't needs even first without listening to me. His words got me angry and of a truth because he is an elderly man that's why I couldn't insúlt him back.

This man lack empathy, he doesn't understand the perspective where am trying to explain myself concerning the credit. He doesn't know the character or action he potrated to me at the shop can affect others customers that has been collecting items on credit in my mother's shop. I also understand this man is a kind of person that enjoy taking or receiving more from people than giving out to people. And this kind of people hardly adjust for other people to receive.

When he came he appears so confident but selfishness hides inside of him. I was thinking perhaps he thought am trying to take advantage of him or what? I told him sir I will not give him the items he requested from me without paying his outstanding debts or he should wait till my mother's comes back. He got angry at my statement and left the shop.

I was just looking at him while he was going and talking to myself this kind of person cannot give someone something for free. Yes, if he cannot pay his debts or saying is my mother that gave him the items on credit not me then he came to collect another items on credit He thought am a little boy and won't know about his debts or what? A lot of questions kept running through my mind.

Well I couldn't sell anything to him as he got angry and left home. When my mother came back from the market I explained everything that happened between the man and I . Whatever you will do in this life, be considerate as well. Doesn't always look out for your gain or happiness alone but also for other people happiness too. Everything or most times not everything must go the way you wants it or your way. If it does then is fine but if it doesn't accept it the way it is. Selfishness is bad and is never an attribute that shows responsibility in someone's life. We should not always think of ourselves in everything at every opportunity and everytime. Think about other people as well.
