My Rice Farm // Removing Grass And Handweeding Our Rice Farm For Proper Germination By Removing The Stray Weeds From My Rice Farm.

Rice farming in Nigeria is very important and the most stable part of agricultural farming system especially in Nigeria because almost every house farm rice because of it usages. From what I heard from my parents and was taught in school is that Nigeria being an Africa has the highest and largest production of rice. And because of it availability and high consumption, rice farming has become a business for other people, food security and source of income for some people in Nigeria.

In my country Nigeria, the production of rice is rampart and in a large qualities in most parts of the states and communities in Nigeria. Almost all the states engaged in rice farming in Nigeria. Farming rice isn't too stressful like other farm produces. We plant it using direct seeding and using clearing and harrowing to keep the farm clean. When the rice grow or germinate to a certain level or stage, you need to apply fertilizer to it to grow better. Fertilizers like urea or NPK is the most common used fertilizers while farming rice in Nigeria. The method we used for farming this rice farm is not irrigation system but rainfed method.

When the rice get dirty, you need to weed it manually with your beards hands, apply herbicide to control pest disease. There are things to observed when weeding or clearing your farm rice, you need to lookout for the weeds, unwanted plants, grass seed and removed them among the rice . When you leave your rice farm with other grasses and unwanted plants, the rice will die down and not grow properly.

When you weed your rice farm, you will have good harvest because weeds kills nutrients and doesn't allow water to flow freely in the rice farm. Other farmers uses tractors, hoes or even herbicides to clean the farm. I harrowed my rice farm to keep my farm clean, smoothen the farm soil.

When you remove the grass, you puddle it and throw it away. But most rice grows very well in a flooded farmland. We handweed our rice farm after 6 weeks of planting and when you applied chemical after handweeding your rice, it sprouts it out rapidly. We will walk through the rice field and removed the stray weeds by our hands. At times after handweeding our rice farm, we spread weed seeds by preventing other animals like cows or cattles from grazing our rice farm.

As you can see, the rice farm is looking so greenish and very clean. In two months time the rice will be ready for harvesting. But there are some parts of the land that the rice doesn't have much water, and because of not having enough water the rice doesn't produce good head.

Lack of enough water can affect your rice farm from growing or germinating good heads. We plant our rice farm close to a flooded river to have availability of water.

There are stubborn plants or grass that doesn't die off easily by just spraying chemicals on the farmland. You need to use your hand, remove that stubborn grass and handweed those unwanted plants to have a good growth. By doing this your rice farm will bring out good harvest.
