Dear friends of this our cherished community space.Today your friend, Mnkong Emmanuel Saah has came again to share with you another thrilling and remarkable annual event in Cameroon the; "Mount Cameroon Race of Hope". The 30th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope was held on February 22, 2025 in Buea, South West Region of Cameroon.


√ Mount Cameroon, which is the highest summit in central and western Africa is now known to culminate at 4040m above sea level. This has not only served as a touristic site for the influx of tourists that came to view and appreciate the amazing work of nature but has also contributed as a hub in the development of sport in the field of Athletics in the Country.
√ Historically Mount Cameroon is believed to have been discovered by a Carthaginian known as Hanno. He name it Chariot of the gods, after seeing it erupt in the 5th Century Bc.

° MOUNT CAMEROON RACE OF HOPE:
√ The Mount Cameroon Race of Hope, was established in 1973 as an Annual Marathon that challenges both local and international participants to ascend and descend Mount Cameroon, an active volcano and the highest peak in west Africa. With an elevation of about 4040m, the race covers a distance of approximately 42km.
This Year'sMount Cameroon Race of Hope* brought over seven hundreds (700) athletes from Cameroon and twelve (12) different countries to compete, with top three finishers in each category receiving monetary prizes. In fact this event does not only serves as a physical endurance but also as a cultural Celebration that makes Buea the hub of various festivities, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the south west Region of Cameroon.
° QUEEN OF MOUNT CAMEROON RACE: Sarah Etonge

√ A highly celebrated Legend, commonly known as Queen of Mount Cameroon Race was at the event and participated this time in the veteran. Her records remain indelible in the annals of the sporting history of Cameroon. Sarah Etonge was born in 1967 in Buea, in the south west region of Cameroon. As a Legend in athletics, she has won seven (7) victories in the female category of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope.
√ This year marked the 30th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope. It also marked the triumphant return of Sarah Etonge nicknamed "Queen of the mountain" at 56 years old, won the Women's Veteran Category.
° THE DOMINANCE AND OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE OF BUI ATHLETES AT MOUNT CAMEROON RACE OF HOPE.

√ In the 30th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope held on February 22, 2025 was dominated by the athletes from due to their hard work, and discipline. Other factors could stream from the hilly and mountainous nature of Bui Division in particular and north west region in general. They claimed top positions across multiple categories. The outstanding performances by the Athletes from Bui Division and north west region further highlights the regions growing prominence in long-distance running and it's contribution to the sports development in the Country, Cameroon.
° THE DISTINCTIVE OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES OF BUI ATHLETES AT THE 30TH EDITION OF THE MOUNT CAMEROON RACE OF HOPE.
√ Senior Men Category: Usheni Hassan

Usheni Hassan, aged 24 is an athlete from Kumbo in Bui Division, of the North west region of Cameroon. He emerged victorious in the senior Men Category completed in the challenging 42 kilometers course with exceptional speed and endurance of less than 3hours 43 minutes. Thus adding more credit to the region's growing reputation in athletics competition.
√ Senior Women's Category: Ngalim Lissette

The Senior Women's Category witnessed the brilliant performance of Ngalim Lissette, aged 36, also from Kumbo in Bui, who also secured a top spot, in the category.In fact her performance highlights the determination and strength of the female athletes from the north west region, a thing to appreciate and encourage.
√ **Junior Women's Category: Sever Telma.

Sever Telma aged 20, from Kumbo , Bui demonstrated strength and vigor to make everything complete in topping the Junior Women's Category. In fact her emerging talent and prowess in this category made her fans, Bui, as well as north west community proud of, and placed Cameroon's athletic sporting development at a spotlight.
