What Made Me Say "I Must Make It in Life"

Funny enough, I’ve had so many “I must make it in life” moments, but let me share my very first one — the one that truly shaped me.

Growing up, we weren’t rich, but we were comfortable. I’d say we were financially average. As kids, we got about 70–80% of what we wanted. We had house helps, and life seemed smooth. We were just growing up like every other normal family.

But everything came crumbling when my dad went to heaven.

At first, we were still managing, going to school and holding on. But after about two years, things began to fall apart. The business my mom had been running, the one my dad left behind started going down. And it drained her completely. Even as young as we were, we could feel the pain our mom was going through.

There were eight of us, and all the burden was suddenly on her. I caught her so many times crying alone, asking why my dad left her to carry all the weight. Some of you might be able to relate to this, because sadly, this isn't the first time hearing stories like this hard but this is my story and my first real experience of something like this. I honestly didn’t expect writing this to bring tears to my eyes. 😔

Things got so bad we had to hawk on the streets of Aba, Abia State, just to feed. We stopped going to school, Countless times we had to soak garri and there were times when the lifesaver (garri) no even dey, omo it wasn't easy sha. The debts from her business became too much. For her mental health, she had to shut it down.

I watched all this happen, and right then I told myself:
“I must make it in life, for myself and for my mom.”

I haven’t made it yet 🤗 but things are better now. I still carry that fire inside me the one that came from watching my mom. So yes, I must still make it.

Thank you for reading. I hope you felt my story but please, don’t cry with me. 😊
The photo below belongs to me.

I’ll be in the comments waiting for your thoughts and contributions.
Thank you again for the love and support.
