IMPROMPTU ROLE AS A LEADER THAT TURNED OUT AMAZING
It was during our final year seminar defence, we were segmented into groups with our reg numbers, after that each groups were were to pick a leader and an assistant, immediately everyone in my group turned to look at me, I never wanted it because I just hated all the stress and responsibilities that comes with leadership, I rather prefer to just be among the group and throw in my suggestions to help out when needed.
After all they all Insisted I was they one they choose so it was now on me to pick an assistant, aah I had to scan through and pick the one I knew was outspoken among us, because we were going to defend whatever topic we have chosen.
Right there we were to choose our topic and immediately draft out our table of content to the lecturer, so this wasn't really new to me tho cause I had once led a similar group in our 3rd year, but I knew my colleagues, well this particular group was quite different because all of them I would say were cool headed except for the crazy assistant I choose, of course I never knew the other side of her, she was really the craziest type.
I immediately created a whatsApp group for us to dessiminate necessary Information and to have online discussion on our seminar research topic, so I often ask everyone to come out so we meet in school to talk about our research and to throw in suggestions and apply corrections were necessary, because I felt I was better than online chitchatting, but very few persons would turn up when others complained they were very busy and so could not show up, everytime I will request a physical meeting just two persons out of 8 of would show up.
This got me upset and I threatened them that was going to report to the course lecturer if they didn't turn up in the next meeting, apart from the first day my assistant has never showed up or contributed in any way towards the research, always coming up with excuses.
The nextday she showed up raging and cursing that I threatened to report her to the lecturer, before now it has just been me and two other member of the group that has been actively involved with the seminar research, when she came that day I had to insist we all do this has one group and not leaving the responsibility to one person I didn't like it and I had to insist on using some measures to ensure everyone complied.
After that day the outcome was different everyone complied and it was now more of a team work than before, because the initial ideology they had was since I'm the leader I should just handle the entire research and come up with a compiled topic for everyone, this is a group work that we are going to defend, so I needed everyone to be part of it personaly, more involved so that when we will stand out has a group to defend our topic we would score well.
At the End, we had an excellent presentation and our lecturer was very impressed with our performance and rated us second in ranking.
