There are places that are unforgettable!

And Spain, all of it, is a country of incomparable beauty, wonderful gastronomy and a human quality where we feel at home.

We Venezuelans actually come from there.

But there are places that you will never forget in your life and one of these places is Santander; a city in a natural port that has been used since before the Roman Empire, with incredible landscapes, with wonderful beaches of the renowned Cantabrian Sea, so named since the first century BC by the Romans, because the people who were established on its shores were recognized as the Cantabrians.

Actually, it is a small area of the Atlantic Ocean, like a bay of the Atlantic Ocean that we call sea.

And there are many places to highlight, but of them, one site in particular draws powerful attention:

The Palacio de la Magdalena.

And this photograph that I have in my arsenal, as my sister Rosa lives there, in Spain, is my entry to @bucipuci's excellent Around The World: Challenge - #43/5 contest.

Hunting ghosts...

Although Santander has been recognized for its cultural and touristic life, surrounded by prodigious nature, and where to spend a leisure time that renews energies, little is said in America about this city.

Also, according to some blogs, it is a city recognized as one of the most elegant and beautiful of the north coast of the beautiful country of Spain, with its beaches and islands in front of the city.

But what most caught our attention, I must admit our tourist superficiality, was the Palacio de la Magdalena.

A building located on the Magdalena peninsula, in front of the island of Mouro in the city of Santander, and which was built recently, from 1909 to 1911, to house the Spanish royal family, or as a summer residence of the kings Alfonso XIII and Victoria Eugenia.

And it caught our attention due to the fact that Alejandro Amenábar, the famous director winner of several Goya and Oscar awards, filmed there the movie “The Others”, in 2001.

Yes, the one at the end that can not be commented because there are still generations who have not seen it, and which starred Nicole Kidman; and likewise, other films and series that, from Venezuela, are not so famous, have been filmed there.

Actually, we don't know if it motivated the ghostly atmosphere of the house which, we later realized, was only given by the production of the film, and with the irrevocable desire to be able to observe a ghost peeping out of a window.

The truth is that this construction is enchanting and offers the opportunity to generate incredible and beautiful photographs, because it is always in complete harmony with the sky that covers it.

However, no ghosts, aliens or any other paranormal manifestation appeared in the photographs, the memories that remained have been priceless.

This photograph I choose today for this @bucipuci initiative.

She remains among the most loved and valued photographs on my computer.

And the sea! That beautiful blue sea

Of course I could not let pass the fact that the Cantabrian Sea has an unforgettable aspect.

So I leave you some pictures here to delight you, and to invite you, when the economic possibilities exist, to visit this wonderful land, whose signage I leave below at @worldmappin.

Personal review:

Before I was 18 years old and living in another Venezuela, an oil-rich one, by the way, I asked my father, who just died on October 17 last year, to allow me to travel alone, out of the country, in the company of some friends who were starting college with me.

For that, we had to arrange the passport with his permissions.

Since then, I have tried, by all means, that the gifts he gives me are travel gifts.

At the age of 17 I was able to visit Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Mexico; and today, after so many years, the memories still float in my mind as if it had all been yesterday.

Today's country does not allow us, in such an easy way, to be able to travel, but the desire is there, a hope that there will be some day trip that will revive the desire to love the planet and the cultures.

I know that many of the photographs of that time were taken with cameras of little professional value, but they still remain in my parental home, yellowed, but never forgotten.

And if I am allowed, here, in some of these initiatives, at some point I will bring up one of them, not only to take it to the contest, but to remember how important it is in the formation of a human being, to travel and learn about places and cultures.

¡Existen lugares que no se olvidan!

Y España, toda, es un país de una belleza inigualable, gastronomía maravillosa y una calidad humana donde nos sentimos como en casa.

¡Vaya! Es que los venezolanos provenimos de allí en realidad.

Pero hay sitios que nunca en tu vida vas a olvidar y uno de estos sitios es Santander; una ciudad en un puerto natural que es utilizado desde antes del Imperio romano, con unos paisajes increíbles, con playas maravillosas del reconocido Mar Cantábrico, bautizado así desde el siglo primero antes de Cristo por los romanos, porque los pueblos que estaban establecidos en sus costas se reconocían como los cántabros.

En realidad, es una pequeña zona del océano Atlántico, como una bahía del océano que llamamos mar.

Y hay muchos lugares para resaltar, pero de ellos, un sitio en especial llama poderosamente la atención:

El Palacio de la Magdalena.

Y esta fotografía que tengo en mi arsenal, pues mi hermana Rosa vive allí, en España, es mi entrada al excelente concurso de @bucipuci Around The World: Challenge - #43/5

Cazando fantasmas…

A pesar de que Santander ha sido reconocido por su vida cultural y turística, rodeado de naturaleza prodigiosa, y donde pasar un rato de ocio que renueve energías, se habla poco en América sobre esta ciudad.

También, según algunos blogs, es una ciudad reconocida como una de las más elegantes y bellas de la costa norte del hermoso país de España, con sus playas y las islas frente a la ciudad.

Pero lo que más nos llamaba la atención, debo reconocer nuestra superficialidad turística, era el Palacio de la Magdalena.

Un edificio situado en la península de Magdalena, frente a la isla de Mouro en la ciudad de Santander, y que fue construido recientemente, de 1909 a 1911, para albergar a la familia real española, o como residencia de verano de los reyes Alfonso XIII y Victoria Eugenia.

Y nos llamó mucho la atención por el hecho de que Alejandro Amenábar, el famoso director ganador de varios premios Goya y del Oscar, filmó allí la película “Los otros”, en el año 2001.

Sí, esa del final que no se puede comentar porque aún hay generaciones que no la han visto, y que fue protagonizada por Nicole Kidman; e igual, otras películas y series que, desde Venezuela, no son tan famosas, han sido filmadas allí.

En realidad, no sabemos si motivó el ambiente fantasmal de la casa que, luego nos dimos cuenta, solo se lo dio la producción de la película, y con el deseo irrevocable de poder observar algún fantasma asomando por alguna ventana.

Lo cierto es que esta construcción enamora y ofrece la oportunidad de generar fotografías increíbles y hermosas, porque siempre está en completa sintonía con el cielo que la cubre.

Como sea, que en las fotografías no salieron fantasmas, extraterrestres ni alguna otra manifestación paranormal, los recuerdos que quedaron han sido invaluables.

¡Y el mar! Ese hermoso y azul mar

Por supuesto que no podía dejar pasar el hecho de que el Mar Cantábrico tiene un aspecto inolvidable.

Por lo que les dejo algunas fotografías aquí para que se deleiten, y para invitarlos, cuando existan las posibilidades económicas, a que visiten esta maravillosa tierra, cuyo señalamiento lo dejo debajo en @worldmappin

Reseña personal

Antes de cumplir los 18 años y viviendo en otra Venezuela, petrolera, por cierto, le pedí a mi padre que, de paso, recién acaba de morir el 17 de octubre del año pasado, que me permitiera viajar solo, fuera del país, en compañía de algunos amigos que iniciaban la universidad conmigo.

Para eso, tuvimos que gestionar el pasaporte con sus permisos.

Desde entonces, he intentado, por todos los medios, que los regalos que me dé sean regalos de viaje.

A los 17 años pude conocer Colombia, Panamá, Costa Rica, El Salvador y México; y hoy en día, después de tantos años, los recuerdos aún flotan en mi mente como si todo hubiese sido ayer.

El país de hoy no nos permite, en forma tan fácil, poder viajar, pero el deseo está allí, a una esperanza de que se dé algún viaje de días que nos reviva el deseo de amar al planeta y las culturas.

Sé que muchas de las fotografías de entonces fueron tomadas con cámaras fotográficas de poco valor profesional, pero aún quedan en mi hogar paterno, amarillentas, pero nunca olvidadas.

Y si me es permitido, por aquí, en alguna de estas iniciativas, en algún momento traeré a colación una de ellas; no solo para llevarla a concurso, sino para recordar lo importante que es en la formación de un ser humano, viajar y conocer lugares y culturas.
