One thing is ego and another is pride / Una cosa es el ego y otra el orgullo (eng-esp)

Hi, ladies.
As you know, I'm pursuing my PhD in the arts, specifically in the Methodology of Guitar Ensemble Practice.

It turns out that, during one of my research presentations, at the end of the PowerPoint presentation, I included a photo of a former student (similar to this one) who is now conducting his own orchestra. One of the PhD students present told me that the photo was an ego cult.

It turns out that I have 30 years of artistic career and have graduated dozens of students. I have received multiple awards, like the ones I show you in the following photos, and I have deserved multiple recognitions for my work and artistic endeavors.

However, I have never allowed this to affect who I am or believe myself to be better than anyone else.
Awards, in my opinion, are a form of recognition, of course, but at the same time, they create a commitment to continue improving your work as an artist.
An award is the evaluation of a jury composed of 3, 5, or 7 people, who decided that your work was worthy and the best of those competing.
That doesn't mean you're the best artist in the world.
That's why, the more awards I have, the more humble and committed I feel to my audience and to myself, because it drives me to improve and to seek my own entelechy.

Awards are both beneficial and dangerous for artists, as they can inflate their egos.

And let's not fool ourselves: all artists have egos. Some of us just know how to manage them.

Ego can be the death of an artist.

That's why being happy and sharing your successes with the world isn't ego worship: it's joy. Besides, I'm an artist; I have to show my successes, my achievements. That's what I worked for.
And as a teacher, I'm also proud to see how my students, those whose first guitars I put in their hands, grow as artists and become professionals.
That's my pride; it's not ego, and I have to show it.
Ego is very dangerous, girls, be careful with it, because it can affect us in every area of ​​our personal and professional lives.
However, if you win an award or something that makes you happy, share it and let the universe know.
You deserve it. That's what we work for.
We have to be modest, but being modest is one thing, and keeping quiet about our successes is quite another.
Ego is one thing, and pride is another. We can have both, and it's good to have them, but we have to know how to control them.

Hola, chicas.
Como ustedes saben, estoy realizando mi doctorado en ciencias sobre arte, precisamente en la Metodología de la práctica de conjunto de Guitarras.

Resulta que, durante una de las exposiciones de mi trabajo investigativo, en el final del Powerpoint, puse una foto de un ex alumno (parecida a esta), que ya está dirigiendo su propia orquesta y una de las doctoras presente me dijo que aquella foto resultaba un culto a mi ego.

Resulta que tengo 30 años de carrera artística y he graduado a decenas de alumnos, he recibido múltiples premios, como los que les muestro en las fotos siguientes y he merecido múltiples reconocimientos por mi obra y quehacer artístico.

Sin embargo nunca he permitido que esto afecte la persona que soy ni me crea mejor que nadie.
Los premios a mi entender son un reconocimiento claro está pero al mismo tiempo crea un compromiso para continuar mejorando tu obra como artista.
Un premio es una valoración de un jurado compuesto por 3, 5 o 7 personas, que decidieron que tu obra valía y que era la mejor de aquellas que competían.
Eso no quiere decir que seas la mejor artista del mundo.
Por eso, mientras más premios tenga más humildes hoy y más comprometida me siento para con mi público y conmigo misma pues me impulsa a superarme y a mejorar a buscar mi propia entelequia.

Los premios son para los artistas al mismo tiempo beneficioso como peligroso, ya que les puede inflar el ego.
Y no nos engañemos todos los artistas todos los seres humanos tenemos ego. Solo que algunos sabemos manejarlo.
El ego puede ser la muerte del artista.

Por eso, el que una esté contenta y que comparta sus éxitos con el mundo, no es un culto al ego: es alegría. Además, yo soy artista, tengo que mostrar mis éxitos, mis conquistas. Para eso trabajé.
Y como Maestra, también me enorgullece ver cómo mis alumnos, a esos que les puse sus primeras guitarras en las manos, crecen como artistas y se vuelven unos profesionales.
Ese es mi orgullo, no es ego y tengo que mostrarlo.
El ego es muy peligroso, chicas, cuidado con él, porque nos puede afectar en cualquier esfera de la vida personal y profesional.
Sin embargo, si obtienen algún premio o algo que las haga feliz, compártanlo y que se entere el universo.
Ustedes se lo merecen. Para eso trabajamos.
Nosotras tenemos que ser modestas, pero una cosa es ser modestas y otra bien diferente es callarnos nuestros éxitos.
Una cosa es el ego y otra el orgullo. Podemos y es bueno tener ambas, pero hay que saber controlarlas.
