Partying like a pro.

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog. Have you attended a Yoruba party before? If not please do when you are invited to one because you will enjoy it.

When it comes to celebration and entertainment, i think we should dove our cap for the Yoruba people in Nigeria. We presently have Yoruba speaking people in eight states in Nigeria which are Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun,Ondo, Ekiti, kwara and lastly Kogi State.

I can tell you for free that all the above listed states can make a supposed small party an elaborate one. They can pass for what one can call **a ba olode fee loju. **(One who truns small party to an elaborate one for the celebrant).

I attended a supposed o' level graduation party in my area last week and my wao was waoed. I was invited to the party by two of my god sons in the area as they are among the graduatants so i honored the invite.

I call this boys my godson because they come to me for academic, carrier and even relationship advice despite their age. I listen to them without judging them and guide them as expected of a mature adult. Moreso, we share goals and aspiration together.

The both of them are students while i am a teacher, they are seaming apprentices while i am a seamstress. They are always at mine when they are not at work either to play, learn or sew on my machine. Infact, we have a time table we work with.

When i was going for the party the business mind in me told me to take my Pos along as parents may want to withdraw more money to spray their children when they present one thing or the other.

The movement i saw the way Faruq's mum was dressed, i knew i came for a confirm yoruba party. I watched all the presentatios and spelling bees from the beginning till the end. Infact i learnt to spell pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism which is one of the longest word in the dictionary.

Every now and then, mum faruq will stand from her sit to greet her invited guests. There was a time i followed her in the greeting exercise and it was then i knew that she invited one third of the total population of our community.

As if that was not enough, his dad was sitted at another corner with his friends drinking and following the program passively. As i was coming back form the third canopy where i went to attend to a costumer, i saw Anthony's mum too dressed in the same colour as mum Faruq and i just smiled.

When it was time for graduant drance, mum faruq and her guest dominated the dance floor and they really danced well. After the collection of testimonials, mum Faruq gave us doughnut and American cola and i left for my house.

My neighbors who was there till the end of the program said graduants collected gifts based on thier classes. She said i missed the icing on the cake because mum Faruq and Anto like we usually call them hosted people in their home where they served all their guests Amala, gbegiri and ewedu.

When she said that i just smiled and said to myself shy because of o' level graduation. Well i wish my boys success in their examination and future endeavors.
