HN-WK94: COVID DRIVER

avatar

I have a lot of first time experiences. Believe me when i tell you that one of such experience that i may no forget is my first driving experience.

Year 2020 made the whole world to pause on a lot of things due to the outbreak of the covid 19 pandemic. The school and other public places where all shutdown.

It got seriously in our community that we had to start doing community shopping on each market day and each persons that goes for this community shopping will be isolated for few days to avoid the spreading of the pandemic.

Another problem we faced as a community during that period was the problem of mobilization. To move from one place to another became a serious problem because public transportation does not function regularly.

Often time, we had to trek (walk) half way to the market before we would be able to get a public bus to the market and also walk half way back home leaving one tired and exhausted after each visit to th market.

All this while, my husband hafd this small old Toyota tazel Parked in front of our flat gathering dust. One day i asked him if anything was wrong with the vichele and he said nothing was wrong with it.

Then i told him to please teach me how to drive in other to ease the strees for me while going to the market since ge will not drive me down because of the risk involved.

He actually taught me the best way he could. At the beginning of the lesson he showed me the break, the clutch, the gear, the turtle, the speed meters, fuel gauge and others.

Then we started the the lesson, it was smooth at first and i felt confident because he was guiding me but the movement he left he to try it on my own i knew i was in a big mess.

I don't know if to call what came over me as fair or not being confident, i just found out that i was doing the opposite of what was expected of me like matching the break instead of turle and turle instead of break.

I could not concentrate on the riad and this made me to drive on to a small hill and almost made me hit a friend. Thank God for the intervention of my husband (teacher).

Immediately the vichele stopped moving, i jump out and told my husband that i wad no longer interested in the driving class because i was afraid of what could have happened if not for his intervention.

I abandoned the class and faced the market strees till the end of covid and later attended a proper driving school in September of same year.

Thanks for reading till the end .
