CNF #137. Long Distance.
Hello everyone, welcome to my blog. Before you start reading, have you had any excuse not to go to work before? Are the excuses genuine one? Please enjoy.......
I once had a colleague whose name was Miss Fola. She was an hard working employee and the company valued her alot. The company was ready to send her to anywhere either as representative or for seminar in other to improve her productivity.
After ten years of serving the company and several promotion she was almost at the peak of her career when her daughter fell sick and she was not stable at the office because she had to juggle between her work, home and hospital visit.
To the glory of God her daughter got well, discharge from the hospital and life continued. To everyone suprise, Mrs Fola started getting to work late and may call in sick like twice or more in a week. The boss did not complain at first because of her previous contribution to the company.
Not before long, a lot of things started going off due to her negligence so the boss called her for a one on one conversation saying Mrs Fola, I know the way you were working when you just joined us years ago and I also notice the way you work now a days.
I must confess you are not meeting up on any work given to you and this is making the company to loss deals which is not a good thing for you and for us all as a company. Is there anything you are going through that is affecting or your productivity on the job?.
If there is anything you think I as an individual or the company can do to help, I will like you to please speak up. In response to what the boss said Mrs Fola said I am grateful for the privilege and the opportunity to serve, I am also grateful for your contribution during the time of my daughter's sickness.
I regret all my previous actions of not showing up at the office as I am expected to. I promise you that from now moving forward I am going to turn a new leave. With that the conversation came to an end and she left for her office.
Truth to her word, Mrs Fola started resuming early and giving her job all the needed attention but that only lasted for a while before she resumed her previous ways of missing work or resuming late.
On one of the days that she was not in office, the CEO came to our branch as he hardly does. He made sure to check every one according to their portfolio on getting to Mrs Fola, she was absent and no body could state any reason for her absence. Not even our direct boss , the poor man was tired of her and her excuses.
The following day, she was greeted with a query letter from the office of the CEO. In response to the query Mrs Fola wrote I have been absent from work from time to time because the place where I live is too far from the office and each day I come to the office I get home late and too exhausted to come to work the second day.
After reading the letter the CEO responded by writing. "Dear Mrs Fola, the excuse you give for commiting AWP(Away Without Permission)on the job is a weak one. This is to inform you that you are expected to be at your duty post every day else your appointment will be terminated." With this response,Mrs Fola knew better to sit up in other for her not to become jobless.
Thank you for reading till the end.

Hmm, if she feels that the distance is quite far, then she should have spoken up so that better measures can be put in place for her.

I was scared that Fola would be sacked, but thankfully she wasn't sacked. I feel she needs that job especially because of her daughter.
Mrs. Fola will sit up now that she had been queried.
