Abaya(Jalabia) Delight.
Good day everyone, welcome to my blog.

Today, I will be taking you through how I made this beautiful abaya and how I got the inspiration. Speaking of, I saw this design on a web2 app and wanted to buy from the vendor but the price she called was much so I decided to take a good look at it.
Looking through it, I knew I could make this piece if I want to so I set to work. I source for my materials at a large fabric market in my state so the fabric was not the problems. I made this abaya from fabric (jokoso material), English rope, velvet, heming gum and black stones.

Cutting was so easy as i Iaid and cut the front and back of the fabric together after taking the measurements of my shoulder, body and length. For this piece, you want the abaya to look a little big (flow) on you so I increased my shoulder by two inches and body by two inches in both sides.
I went ahead to turn the neck of my abaya from the facing that I cut out from the material then top stich that at the back after which I went in with the English rope from the neckline down to the lower part of the fabric then the two sides.

After that, I had to work on my paches. To achieve this circle shape, I used carbonated drink cover on my velvet then cut out with my already hot sold iron then gum it with B6000 gum. Before guming, I tried to sew it but it did not came out well so I had to settle for the gum and I am happy with the results I got.
When I was done with that, I went ahead to join the shoulders of my fabric then glue the facing on the inside with heming gum giving it that perfect ready to wear look then I joined the body before fixing the sleeve which the patch and English rope had also been sew on.

The last two sewing I did was the down part of folding which I folded using one and half inch and the belt hole by the side of the dress, after that, I was through with sewing then I went into my stoning board. I chose the perfect size of circle that I want on my stoning board, apply the black stones to it then transfer it onto my fabric with the help of transfer sheet.
Normally, if I am to make this dress for a client, it a work I can finish in a day but because the projects is mine, couple with the fact that I work nine to five, I spent two weekends on it before it was ready. I made small scaf from the piece I have left given that I would have a scaf if I bought a ready to wear abaya.
