The Gross and Intriguing Stinkhorn Fungi
(Edited)
Walking into the woods recently, we came across a cluster of stinkhorn fungi. These mushrooms have quite a strong smell.
Although they are very common here in the UK, I don't see an awful lot of them. The stinkhorn grows in woodlands and you are more than likely smell them before you see them. They smell like something has died!
The horrible smell attracts insects, which then spread the spores. As you can see there were a lot of flies on some of them.
Apparently, some are edible but I'm not interested in trying them! I left the flies to it ...

If you can find them in their egg form they are edible, kind of taste like radishes.
That sounds a bit more appetising. 🙂
