Fungi Friday: Scooby Dooby Do, Where Are You?
As I walked through the wooded area, sadly I didn't find many fungi this time. The ones that had come through had all died off.
The best time in this forest is September/October when the more interesting and colourful fungi appears.
I occasionally see people foraging for fungi to eat but I'm not confident in picking the right ones. I don't want to poison myself but quite a few people do forage. You can actually pay and join a session with a foraging expert. They will help you identify the fungi and taste them. I hope they leave plenty behind for the wildlife.
To be honest, even though I like hunting fungi to take photographs, I'm quite happy nipping down to the supermarket for my mushrooms!
In a couple of months' time down this country lane there will be lines of large fly agarics. I'm hoping we do get a few rainy days as it's been quite dry of late. Something to look forward to.
