A Stormy Sky at the Ruined Hall

I called in at Sutton Scarsdale Hall which is the ruin of a large Georgian mansion built in 1724. It's only in the last year or so that the metal fence around its perimeter was removed, as it was once deemed unsafe.

After making it structurally safe the fence was removed and visitors can now walk through it free of charge. There is no roof to it and some of the interior was sadly exported to America.

It looked quite striking against the stormy sky. This is the reason I called in because I could tell we were going to have a storm. I thought the hall would look quite photogenic in this kind of weather. Unfortunately, I didn’t stop too long as it started to rain quite heavily once I got out of the car. Typical!

The views were beautiful over the hills but civilisation isn't too far away as there is a busy motorway in the distance.

Around the hall there is a ditch called a ha-ha which years ago, would have kept the deer from getting too near the hall. Personally, I would welcome deer roaming my garden.

What a beautiful building, Ellen. I can imagine how magnificent it must have been back in the 1700's. It's such a shame to see it had been left to decay. I wonder how it would look today restored. Hmmm?

It looks so much better now without the metal railings which were an eyesore.
