A Rainy Day Walk with Sheltering Cows, Flowers, and Fresh Air

Today's walk around the Willilamthorpe Nature Reserve, which consists of three ponds and a wooded area, was a little bit on the wet side. The weather had granted the British people their wish by bringing overnight rain to water people's gardens.

Along the way, the delicate pink blossom on the trees stood out next to the water.

As it was a bit overcast, the vivid yellow of the Scotch broom also stood out. It is somewhat invasive here so there's quite a lot of it about.

If anyone is interested in health issues, the dog rose is used in skin care products as it is a good antioxidant. It is also good for supplying nectar for insects and rosehips for birds.

Buttercups are also very common here. Not only are they a food source for bees, when I was a child, we used to hold the flower under someone's chin, if the yellow colour reflected on their chin, it meant they liked butter!

I walked as far as the culvert that helps manage the water flow and then I double backed on myself.

On the way home, I spotted a small herd of cows sheltering under the tree. Cattle often find shelter to protect themselves from the wind and rain. They were very well hidden. You will have to enlarge the photo to see them.
