"The earth is what we all have in common" - Wendel Berry.

To be eco-friendly is to do things that are not harmful to our environment. This takes a lot of effort as most of the things we do intentionally or unintentionally harm the planet.

In my country there has been calls for people to be eco-friendly but we only see it as a thing that concerns only the developed countries because we think we do not have what it takes to be eco-friendly but we can start from little even right from our homes. We see eco-friendly as being too expensive.

I will be sharing how I practice eco friendly

** Dispose of refuse properly**

Pollution is part of the things that makes our environment dirty. It is very common to see people dropping bottles of their drinks on the floor even when there is an incinerator nearby, we need self discipline on doing the right thing at all times. All these wastes are being washed inside river, gutters and end up blocking it.

Proper disposal of wastes both big and small should be given to waste collectors, government are trying their best in this aspect and we need to make it easy too. My dad properly arranges refuse and give it out to waste collectors. He also has goats and he takes their dung to farm as manure.

Re-using things
Here, going to buy things in shops and you are not given nylon looks rude, no matter what even if it is just one item some still demand for nylon and it later becomes too much. I always prefer to buy polythene bag which I can use more than once as long it has not torn. Rather than throwing old clothes away or burning them I give it out to younger ones closer to me. Most of my bottle drinks I pack it together and give it out to people selling, they use it for selling their groundnut oil and palm oil. There is a family friend who sells Zobo ( made from Hibiscus sabdariffa drink)and kunu(millet drink)I also give it to her as she uses it to sell and some of her customers may not return it, she needs it more than me, the remaining is for keeping drinking water inside the fridge.

Conserving water
In as much as water is non renewable I try as much as possible to conserve mine, I save for later use and off the tap whenever it's not in use to avoid wastage and if there's any leakage I always tell my sister so the plumber can be called to rectify it.

Turning off lights and electrical appliances
I turn off lights when am not using it during the day or when am not at home. This will help save energy and reduce carbon emission and other harmful gases. It will also save money spent on electricity bills. Turning off your lights(incandescent or fluorescent) is a simple way to help protect the environment and save the planet from harm.
