Helping You Learn About Your Penis
The male reproductive organ is a fascinating topic that has received much attention for a long time. It has been used in different cultures to represent fertility, like in ancient Greece and many other cultures. Its uniqueness and ability to get erect without being pumped like a balloon were one reason that people were fascinated by it, and they wanted to learn and understand it.
Before I continue, do you know that as a male, you could have had your first erection before you were born, like in your mother's womb, and you might likely have your last erection after you are dead. So there is a high chance you wouldn't see both your first and last erection.
Leonardo Da vinci at the end of the 15th century dissected the human cadaver, and the penis wasn't left out, and he drew the penis structure which gave us an idea of what its anatomy looked like. We were also able to know at this time that air wasn't the reason for erection, rather increased blood flow was. Since then, we have learned a lot about the penis and the male reproductive system.
Talking about erection, one way to be erect is during arousal where blood flows to the penis but then one can be erect even when one is sleeping and this doesn't even have anything to do with arousal. The body regulates blood flow during sleep and blood could get to this area. Researchers are still trying to understand why this happens.
Unlike the female vulva which has two openings where one allows for penetration (vaginal opening) and the other for urination (urethral opening), the male penis has only one opening where both semen and urine pass through known as the meatus.
For urine, it comes straight from the bladder to the urethra but for sperm, it is a complex situation. It is formed in the testicles and matures there, The mature sperm travels through the epididymis through a tube known as the vas deferens after which it gets to the urethra then exits through the meatus during ejaculation. So this usually raises the question if one will not pee during sex but the human body has already found a way to prevent such and it does such by contracting the internal urethral sphincter.
What you ejaculate is actually semen and it contains sperm but then sperm is just about 2% to 5% of the total volume while the remaining 95% is a combination of nutrients, water, and other liquids which are responsible for keeping the sperm alive especially when they are in the acidic environment of the vigina.
The human penis doesn't have a bone even though it is referred to as a boner. But this doesn't mean that one cannot have a fracture. If the penis is forcefully bent during an erection, the spongy-looking tissue can rupture as well as tear. This can be extremely painful and requires immediate medical attention.
That said, either circumcised or not, the penis still does its job, urination, and ejaculation, and there's no conclusive reason for mandating that people should or should not be circumcised. As a man, just be fine with what you have and observe proper hygiene down there. Before I go, for the size of penises, flaccid it is said to be around 3.5 inches and 5.5 inches on average.
